Meta TC: 470k + 100k signon (E5) Jump TC: 450k (guaranteed) + 150k signon (core dev) Meta Pros: - Unprecedented upside opportunity at a public company with all-time low stock and great offer for my YOE. With stacking refreshers the guaranteed comp here is rock solid - Large networking opportunity and social structure. With the amount of people who pass through Meta you'll meet tons of people who'll go on to lots of interesting work and companies - Way better office and food - E5 is terminal so can chill and coast. Meta gets a bad rap for having poor WLB but should be better compared to Jump - For what it's worth, FAANG brand. Lots of people haven't heard of 2s/Jump/HRT/JS, having Meta on resume does help with things Cons: - Only way up in TC is to grind for E6/M1 which sounds hard af - I don't believe much in the company's metaverse or reels monetization missions - Even though Meta revenue from family-of-apps ads is huge, if insta loses to tiktok and metaverse fails then the company has no growing/successful large-scale products anymore Jump Pros: - TC ceiling is way higher if I perform, and even more so if I can get onto a successful desk and get a % of PNL - Strong culture and passionate coworkers. Attrition rate at Jump is extremely low, the people seem uniformly happy with comp and work - Can always switch back to FAANG, but would be harder the other way around - True HFT/prop shop industry experience, could switch to HRT/JS/Citadel in future - Will build and learn a ton due to the culture / type of work, no chance to get lazy Cons: - WLB, every interviewer said something like "we work hard, but because we care" aka 50-60 hr weeks are the norm - No info on what discretionary bonus could be - Could get shafted on a poor team / manager / desk YOE: 4 Current TC: 300k #jumptrading #meta
If you're on the dev side, you most probably won't get % of pnl. Only traders, and some Quants get that.
Not necessarily, at tech-driven prop firms trading team devs do get a pnl cut. Especially at hfts. Maybe not op because the offer is in core
It sounds like it definitely happens at HRT & Jane Street. Jump is siloed so I believe devs on desks get cut in. That being said I'd probably need to find a way to transfer onto a desk.
Even traders that were on a desk with a % cut… I didn’t know too many clearing over 500k regularly
?? Lmao I don’t know anyone on a desk who isn’t comfortably clearing 500K
Hm. Maybe that’s true at Jump or a few of the remaining firms. But I knew several traders, knew several firms. Clearing $500k+ was pretty rare unless you were a desk lead or on a team with a really banner year.
How did you get e5 for 4 Yoe? Impressive. How was your Interview experience for coding and system design ?
Just so you know, Meta has no Salary caps at each level. So your upside for the level can keep going. Based on your performance, you can earn higher raises. The bands really only apply to the ranges they offer for the positions and bringing people in for internal alignment. Interested in why you’re thinking leaving Two Sigma. Is it just for a TC bump or do you not like it there?
TC and learning growth were stagnating. Great place for new grads, but not so much for sticking around
Got you. I think your point on the people you will network with and connections you’ll make at Meta is pretty huge. Many don’t think of this aspect. There are also lots of teams you can join if you’re not interested in Metaverse or Reels
Whats your meta break down op?
220/875/100, I believe this is the max offer
Imo the only reason to go from tech to finance is if it's significantly higher TC
Meta is a fucking steal at this point. My only regret is not waiting till the bottom of $FB to join
I'd call the current stock entry point I'm getting a wash -- equivalent cash comp is king cuz I could just buy FB myself, but yes, I get the benefit of 875k of it at today's price.
Jump is a no brainer here
Why?
It highly depends on the team and your interests but there are some general things 1. Great upside in Jump if you want to grow in trading/HFT. Great opportunities down the line in HRT and related firms with incredible comp. Opportunity to continue to be a dev instead of having to move to a managerial role to grow 2. You can join FB anytime later but won’t be as easy to join Jump after several yoe 3. FB stock is not necessarily at the best lowest valuation. It’s more likely to go down 50% from here than go up due to the macro changes and tech selloff. 4. FB culture is not the best and have seen a high turnover of people within a short time. Haven’t heard the same at Jump What is your specific area/ team within Jump. Will you be working closely with the trading/quant team and do you have opportunity to get a % cut in PnL
