TikTok Location: San Jose (looking to transfer to NYC) Org: Monetization Technology-Global Ads Infra Pros: - Higher TC - New experience (interned at Meta for last two years) - Transferrable skills - Fast promo - Hasn’t had mass layoffs yet - Mostly cash comp Cons: - Not Chinese - WLB nightmare? (need thoughts on this) - Not ideal location - Unsure future (TT ban?) Meta Location: NYC Org: Monetization Pros: - Fast promo (can probably promo within a half since I interned here twice already with two GEs) - Better WLB - Preferred location - Great benefits - Stable future Cons: - Less TC - Mass layoffs - Would have to renege (signed this offer before TT got back to me) Ideally, I’d like to promo to L4 within a year and then transfer to a smaller company/ unicorn (Plaid, Ramp, etc) when the market looks better. I’m not entirely sure about reneging (don’t want to get blacklisted), but I heard that Meta doesn’t blacklist. Really grateful to have these two offers while the market isn’t looking too good for 2024 new grads!##

How did you get an E3 offer? I thought Meta was not hiring E3s right now.

Tiktok has the culture close to 996. 996 at Meta will give you GE or RE rating and awesome bonuses
Do you work at Tiktok to say culture is 996? It's 10am and I'm still in bed. Tiktok will almost certainly be more chill than Meta but OP isn't Chinese and wants to live in NY. Only those reasons tip the scale to Meta.
This is where I’m iffy about. My offer for TT is for monetization (aka Ads). My teammates would be in china / seattle / SJ. Do you know if the Ads org has a bad WLB?
Meta. Promotions at TikTok are screwed because you will have to outperform your colleagues based in China (if there are any), to have a chance at promotion. Plus, the RSUs can actually be sold.

I think both options are great career wise! Agreed that moving internally at TT is not guaranteed, but will also say that my personal experience with wlb (not chinese) has actually not been too bad at all. Promos are also very easy from new grad to new grad +1, it’s only once you get past senior that it starts to get political. As always your day to day is very team dependent, so I’d recommend choosing based on which team you think you’d be happier with.
For a team like Ads, is it possible to promo to 2-1 in a half ?
I would say if your work is impactful and you’re communicating with your manager the promo timeline shouldn’t be different between meta and tiktok
If you want to live in NY, go to NY. Don't bank on some future possibility of a transfer. I voted Meta btw.
