Honestly speaking, I think Metaverse is a horrible idea and anti-human nature .The only use case may make sense is for entertainment and gaming and the risk is to make people addicted to the virtual world. It may substitute products like either traditional movies or games or video call etc. However when it comes to real human connections and building community. I think human needs real human to human , human to animal, human to nature real world experiences, not virtual experiences for robots 🤖.
People said the same thing about internet. Metaverse will enrich our lives. We’ll be able to trade from our home that today require taking long flights. Attend concerts with friends living on the other side of the world.
Some people just have their eyes wide shut. According to "Darwin evolution", humans living in a virtual reality will evolve to be fat :)
'Darwinian evolution'; also that's not how evolution' works.
So you understand the quote on quote implies slight sarcasm....
well on a bright side, blind-virgins can stop complaining about dating
If human prefer real human connection they will find it. Let others innovate as they want, and let people pick which connections they like.
Your statement is like let AI be whatever they want??? Will you let your kids addicted to virtual worlds and lose basic humanity ?
I don't agree with your assumptions thay basic humanity will be lost if people are addicted to virtual worlds. If you worry about addiction to virtual world, you are too late my friend. I think basic humanity will be alright.
It’s the natural progression of things. A metaverse-like future is 100% in store as we continue to destroy the beauty of the planet and younger generations get sucked into the digital space. I regularly interact with kids and most tell me that they don’t see value in the real world. Why spend time worrying about how you really look when you can be whoever you want online? I don’t fully agree with the logic but you can’t blame them for thinking this way (especially with this pandemic and the lack of social interaction). The question is this - should we give fb this much power to control the next gen internet?
It’s the same questions for AI. As a human being, we should maintain our basic human feature and needs! I don’t want our kids to be some virtual stuff in the digital worlds.
I agree with you but as I said. It’s like a train that’s going to chug along irrespective of what we do. I guess the choice we have is do we want Facebook to be the gate keeper? The internet has already become a combination of closed gardens. I really don’t want the meta verse to be that.
Exact same arguments can be made about smartphones, social media, addictive apps I think we’ve been on this trajectory for decades now and on this train with no brakes, for better or worse.
To me it’s like toxic drug, we do need some regulation on this.
Meta verse sounds like a scam. Unless we can simulate all 5 senses metaverse is just a fancy name. Right now we can simulate vision and audio. What about taste, smell and touch? True immersion is something like sword art online. Other than that metaverse is just a fancy word using already existing tech.
Right now, yes. I think the plan is for some years into the future. Who knows what billions of dollars in investment and bad WLB can produce.
there are sex robots and toys that simulate touch. I've never seen any that simulate taste and smell though. "Imagine the smell."
