With the cost of space launch nose diving and investment dollars eagerly available to startups, this seems like the perfect time to get in the space technology game. SpaceX is forecasting launch costs as low as $1mil per launch for small satellites (down from $100mil or more!). They are also planning on constructing two starships per week within the decade. That's not even taking into account other space launch companies like Blue Origin and Rocket Lab. This will all reduce launch costs even further. The timing seems perfect. Kind of like the early days of the industrial revolution or telcom. I understand this is a very difficult endeavor and has an extremely high chance of failure. But if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. If easy is what we chase, we would all be developing wordpress websites - the money is gaurenteed at least! This is a new and emerging industry with literally billions to be made and a lot of fun to be had. I'd personally hate to not get in the early days because I was busy chasing TC at the industry of 25 years ago. Any of you guys interested in getting something started? I'm particular interested in the possibilities afforded by space-based manufacturing. But open to other ideas too Edit: Message me, I'll send you an invite to a slack group
@OP: your nickname is FartBag. Is that a hint to some revolutionary propulsion system for those rockets of yours?
What needs to be manufactured in zero g?
3d printed organs Flawless fiber optics Solar arrays Large structures that can't fit into launch vehicle fairings Structures that can't survive launch Gs and vibrations Water & Fuel extraction for extended missions These are just a few ideas. Basically everything we take for granted here on earth will need to be built up in space
I’m working on something on the side that could turn into the next big thing for space. DM if you’re in the Bay and are interested!
There is no market and won't be for some time. SpaceX says stuff that doesn't come true and bezos never launched anything. Where do I sign up?
Anything with extracting and transporting back raw materials preferably all automated is things people could develop right now.
Astrobotic in Pittsburgh, PA comes to mind
One thing that launch companies do not like doing is GSE work. Ground support equipment. From what I’ve been told it’s a project in and of itself, with lots of room to become standardized. People want rapid and universal launch capability.
yes because it is the final frontier
