I just booked tickets to visit Miami in January from Seattle. We were looking for a warm place and have been to California and Hawaii multiple times. I just looked at crime maps for Miami area and they look terrible. I can still cancel my flight within 24 hours. Is Miami a good destination for families with little kids? I'm looking for some laid back activities like beaches, parks etc. My flight is to Fort Lauderdale. I read that it is the least safe city in the US. WTF.
Least safe in US a bit extreme, many like Baltimore, Detroit, way worse, but yeah, Miami definitely has crime and probably would take nearby Naples over it if youāre looking for laid back, parks, less crime.
+1 planning to go there for weather and looking for family friendly, boring laidback type places
Are you +1ing the question or Miami?
have a good one! kids will love the beaches. Whole US and south america travel with kids to florida, enjoy! like any other place avoid lot of time outside during night.
I like this approach: Book tickets..ask for advice on Blindā¦ā¦say itās not a safe placeā¦get tons of commentsā¦and still go ahead with the plans. 5 minutes of my life Iāll never get back.
I'm strongly leaning towards canceling tickets.
You know you will go š. Itās like going to any new place. FWIW even to go to Disney World you have to go via Ft Lauderdale airport.
I'm just visiting for a week.
Cancel your tickets and save your time. Miami aināt that great a place to visit with kids. Beaches are too crowded and they are good if you want to pick up girls or guys. Crime isnāt that big of a problem unless you are seeking trouble.
That is what I wanted to say too, Miami isn't for kids, if you want to enjoy beaches you will be better in Clearwater, St Pete Beach. Crime isn't a big deal here, it is just not the ideal destination for family with kids. If you still want to came, Hollywood Beach will be the best Beach you will find
You booked the tickets then asked this question. Google hiring bar sure has changed
Lol
Fort Lauderdale is not Miami. It's a difference like a day and night. Miami during the day should be fine. I've been out at night in Wynwood and never had an issue. I've also spent a weekend at Miami beach. Be aware that no one wears a mask and that you'll deal with crowds. Besides that, enjoy your stay * I live in Miami
Youāll be fine. Donāt wander around a lot outside during nights. And keep an eye on news about gun violence. I was there during some summer long weekend, didnāt like it much because it gets way too loud during nights, and there were 2 gun violence news during those 3 days in areas far from us. Being said that, go to some childrenās park instead of singles party city, unless you are into partying, or Austin might be fun as well.
What can you do with news about gun violence, isnāt it too late to be safe š
Well if I am standing right in front of the shooter, gun pointed towards me, then it definitely is. In any other situation, I can seek for shelter or safe space š
