More and more posts about America's most underrated city. But it always devolves into a conversation about humidity and the locals. Can we actually list some companies in Miami/FLL that are worth jumping to? 1. Chewy 2. Citrix 3. Magic leap ???
I think that’s pretty much it, OP. I just came back from Miami and loved it! I really want to move there but what prevents me is I don’t really want to go fully remote, I want to have an office to go to at least few days a week. I am torn.
Seriously. I feel like any FAANG+ company could get the same devs for half the regular price since COL + taxes are great and everyones burning to move there.
I think lack of talent in the area makes it hard for companies to open offices there. Also, I wouldn’t work if they would pay significantly less there, I’d rather opt for remote with high compensation. I think it’s a good place to start a company tho.
This site keeps a list of Miami tech companies: https://www.techgateway.org/ I like South Florida in general, but your average tech company has shit pay and shit work life balance. Managers here are still living the dream of the 1990s. I now work of a California company but live in FL. That's a good deal, if you can get it.
Did you find a remote job or switched to remote and moved?
It's a permanent WFH position that I found while in FL. A few of my coworkers did the same. I make 45% more now. It will be interesting to see how local FL companies react to people scoring good WFH deals elsewhere. They are so used to paying us with sunshine.
I think that's probably the top-end for TC, but a lot of people also get scooped up by UKG. L3H office was expanding, but COVID slowed us down. Note, after Motorola went to shit, we hired the lot of them. L3H and ML are all basically ex-Motorola (don't go there). There's also an Amex office around here. All around, S. Fl's pretty shitty.

I think Akamai is there too, but I wouldn't move to Miami: the amount of stupid crap that goes on in that area is nuts
Stupid crap? Like beautiful beaches, incredible culture and food, and a competent state government? I guess west coasters hate those things...
No: like extremely vain materialistic people, a super polarized cultural scene, people who can't drive for shit, a shoot out in NW Miami Dade every other day, crazy amounts of crime, and a very incompetent city and state government (good luck calling 311 to fix anything). I guess west coasters always think the grass is greener... Btw, I've lived in Miami for over 18 years before moving to Seattle
