Micromanager but no pip vs non micromanager but pip.

What is your choice? I used to be a micromanager before and my ‘micro’ management style helped three devs (over a period of 5 years) avoid pip. I used to work for a company where you could change teams just before you are placed on pip and managers nudged that option to avoid the headache of a pip. I happened to receive 3 of these engineers and all three escaped pip and were rated high performers during their time there. They attributed their success to this style of management. I have since then evolved to be a better manager but still wonder, would you rather have a manager that is capable of micromanaging and prevent you from slipping to pip territory? Definition of micromanager: - asks for frequent updates - daily stand ups under the garb of agile - asks for weekly written status emails - reads the emails and follows up - asks for work tasks to be broken down into very granular tasks - 1 story point = half a day - runs short sprint cycles ( please share other traits of a micromanager. Also feel free to exclude some from above) Tc: 500k (230 base rest paper money) Yoe 21 #Software #engineering #FAANG

Sounds like you have an ego and main character syndrome. I’d rather not work at all than work for you

OMG. Just looked up main character syndrome and wow! Could you explain your thought process?

Neither - I will go for a non micromanager and no pip

But pip is a one time thing headache - micromanager is an everyday/every hour headache!
