Micron will pay over $89,000 to settle discrimination of a US Citizen

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/micron-to-pay-penalty-to-settle-federal-citizenship-discrimination-probe/ar-AA1ah843 "The department determined Micron preferred a temporary visa worker for the position and failed to meaningfully consider the U.S. citizen’s qualifications. That violated the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, which bars employers from discriminating based on citizenship, immigration status or national origin at any stage of the hiring process, unless required or allowed by law, the department said." How widespread do you think this is in the tech industry? Intel already settled a lawsuit from a Korean American a few years ago alleging similar biases. https://nextshark.com/korean-american-intel-lawsuit "When the interview concluded, the man allegedly told a fellow interviewer that Intel shouldn’t hire Ryu because he was “Korean, married, and had a child,” adding that “it would be easier to hire a younger, unmarried Indian man.”

Discrimination is extraordinarily difficult to prove, yet these companies still managed to get convicted.

Guardant Health J&3)A Apr 24, 2023

They’d gladly do it again for that fine amount

$89k is not a fine. It’s a finger wag.

Discrimination is beyond rampant in tech and startups. The comments I have heard fellow managers say and not even behind closed doors is disappointing. And I’ve even seen candidates discriminate against recruiters they respond to just on race and gender.

H1b here … I can sense some companies are biased towards h1bs … probably because majority of us won’t involve in woke stuff or demand a 4 day workweek

Intel gravities Apr 25, 2023

I'm sorry you're being exploited but maybe you shouldn't be proud it

NVIDIA qwerty+ Apr 25, 2023

I am proud because I am contributing towards the development of the US and not wasting time and career on woke agenda

Cisco elon.mask Apr 24, 2023

My friend who’s an EM at a small startup said his most troublesome employees are Americans lol

Google L0o0L Apr 24, 2023

That's because h1B are literally slaves. Can't leave/change job easily.

Cisco elon.mask Apr 24, 2023

Yeah, immigrants keep their heads down and work hard, coz they have to.

ex-Twitter ryersop Apr 24, 2023

Must be so blatant and excessive discrimination to be convicted like this! The photo is really racist!

It happens a lot with Dutch based ASML. They have many Dutch nationals here working on visas “because they couldn’t find suitable US citizen” (posts in break room said this). Dutch person starts job before they even post it, and even if you apply they don’t do interviews.
