Microsoft šŸ„œ & Layoffs

It seems official now. 10K layoffs at Microsoft announced today. https://www.seattletimes.com/business/microsoft-cuts-10000-jobs-about-5-of-global-workforce/ The argument was always, ā€œItā€™s šŸ„œ pay in exchange for job security.ā€ Doesnā€™t seem like that reason to stay holds water anymore. Itā€™s now been about a year since I left for almost double TC. #layoff TC 340K | YOE 7

Will LinkedIn be affected as well ?

Ofc, last time when there were no layoffs at MSFT(minus regular pip layoff), Linkedin had pretty big layoffs

Microsoft does pay less than the FAANGS but it hardly pays peanuts when compared to the overall industry.

It pays way less over time, at least for the Seattle market. No name startups will beat their comp. Of course, maybe not true right now when no one is hiring.

My spouse worked for Microsoft for 15 years. Due to Microsoft we were able to live comfortably in Redmond, provide a private school education and college for our children and hang on to 10,000 shares that has boosted our retirement savings greatly.. Why haven't you moved to one of the higher paying companies in the Seattle area? Until 3 or 4 months ago your options were endless?

I have heard the same thing from my managers when i was at msft. It has always been a bold faced lie. Microsoft has always been penny pinching and is all about the bottom line. They were literally the first ones to do layoffs last August when the shit started hitting the fan.

cutting 10,000 jobs... I still remember in 1991, when Microsoft had about 4000 people total and they were "working hard" to bring the headcount to 8000. I was one of them. ZDNet > The figure represents just under five percent of Microsoft's total headcount of over 222,000 staff. Some employees will be told that they'll be losing their jobs today, with the remaining redundancies being made by March.
