Writing my Connect at Microsoft and there’s a big focus on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). We need to commit to at least one focus area and define how we will measure our success in that area. Serious question, does anyone take this shit seriously? One of the options is to “engage in 3+ constructive 1:1 or group discussions around D&I this quarter” like what??? TC 300k
A hiring manager at Microsoft once told me I’d be a good fit for a certain role but he had to consider 2 female candidates in pipeline first before considering me because I didn’t have any obvious signs of being a diverse candidate - he mentioned some program name, gray slate or something like that? Anyway that was the most transparent DEI situation I’ve ever observed.
That is actually illegal. If this was done in a written form as evidence, you actually can sue Microsoft for discrimination. That manager should not have said such stuff.
I know, I was kinda shocked he said that, even if it was “just” on a call (not in writing). I didn’t particularly care, I wasn’t really holding out for that role, but it was very interesting to hear it said out loud.
