Hello guys I have recently gotten an offer at Microsoft. I have accepted and now have heard about the HireRight background check. I have no criminal background at all and didn’t lie about my degrees however I did lie on my resume about one thing. I have three professional experiences. 2 of them are completely accurate however the middle one is an unpaid internship that I lied about. I got an offer from this small startup and was there for only 2 weeks and then quit because they expected me to come to the office 40 hrs a week and pay for parking downtown. On my resume I wrote the original agreed upon 3 months however. Am I screwed? I studied so hard for this and my entire life is basically riding on me graduating and starting at Microsoft. Please advise.
Lol thanks
Probably. Just leave it off your resume in the future.
Serious? I’d imagine that is such a small thing. An unpaid internship?
Doesn’t matter. Say the startup failed (hopefully true)
Thank you
Adding to what I said.... did your 2 weeks fall across 2months? Meaning your started at the end of the month. If so, you can say you put in the wrong end date. Really think about this but I don’t think this should cost you this opportunity but make sure to take it off after
They never verified small internship experience. I am 100% sure, you will be fine. Only college degree is verified.
Isn't college degree the only one they can't verify? As they can't just phone the uni and get confidential info from them on who is enrolled/an alumni. Also, HireRight checked my volunteering experience that weren't even internships.
Thank you!
I don't want to be a mood killer, but HireRight checked my volunteer positions.
How did they verify volunteer positions? Hireright asked me to provide w2 or 1009 to prove my volunteer position but there is no paycheck or any tax forms…
They asked me to provide contacts and their positions, then called some of them
For BGV they will sent you a forum and you need to fill your experience just skip this exp.
Should I simply not put this down while filling out the HireRight document?
What is BGV
And one future tip remove this exp from your resume it harm you without any advantage in interview.
Absolutely
They ask for paystubs/tax forms to verify the employment and time you were there. Never lie about experience. Embellish it as much as you want but directly lying will always bite you in the ass. Might get blacklisted from Microsoft for this because it clearly wasn’t a mistake.
I have no pay stubs for this experience it was unpaid so no W2 or nothing. Can I simply not include this in HireRight at all?
If you don’t include it in HireRight HR will notice the discrepancy when reviewing the report. You can’t leave off relevant experience. If you can’t provide paystubs or an HR contact it’ll look very questionable. 50/50 chance they reject you. Otherwise what’s stopping someone from inventing a random company and claiming they had an unpaid internship.
Can't you just call up that internship CEO and be on the same page about things? Unpaid internships count as experience so having no pay stubs for that is completely fine. If you have the right degrees + 2 other internships + successful interview to back your knowledge about this position, why would they weigh this unpaid internship more than any other experience you have?
Yes I don’t know I’m just worried I don’t want to loose this opportunity on something so stupid
