What does typical career progression for a Microsoft SWE look like? Let's say I join Microsoft Bangalore @L62 with 4 YOE, what would the typical progression be like? How long does each promotion take typically and what are the compensation factors to it (new RSUs + base pay hike) Bonus help - do you recommend joining Microsoft Bangalore, and if so, which team? I'd like to understand this specifically from a MSFT India perspective but other geo employees are also welcome. Current TC ~50 LPA Location - India #engineering #software #swe #microsoft
Not really in terms of wlb and peanuts as refreshers. Work wise azure is good for me so far.62 is pretty good deal btw at 4yoe. I have seen people 8 yoe on 63.
WLB part is fine by me as long as manager/TL don't start WhatsApping me on a weekend. What's the typical hike outlook per review cycle and also on promo. Does the promo equity look good?
Nothing is time based. I find it strange to see questions like these. Come perform and grow
Well this is true for all major companies. But there still is a trend. People who stick around tend to get advantage of faster promo etc, after a certain level, people hit a wall and promo are not required, I get all that. Just asking the usual timeline. Incase it's still subjective, maybe you can share your timeline or someone you know.
62 to 63 needs solid backing and 2 to 3 years. 64 is easy after that with decent work. 65 is the tough one. Superb performance 3 years, else no time limit. In ic role not everyone can become 65 and above
One promo a year is possible until 63 I believe
AFAIK, promo means salary hike but no stocks, but if you are getting promo every 1/1.5yr then you can expect SSA(special stock award)
What's the Microsoft TC op?
In two words: Don't join
Please elaborate?
Initially, it used to be about WLB for most of the people here. The good wlb is not applicable in quiet a few orgs at IDC now. And the pay is stil 🥜 with shitty refreshers. In terms of growth, it is slow moving generally but if you get promoted quickly, you will be kept at the lower band of the new level.
