Thoughts on leaving a full time job for a contract role in Microsoft? On one hand they say there is a possibility of full time conversion but can’t trust them due to current market condition .On the other hand if they do convert then I’ll be working for one of my dream companies
Don’t do it. Conversion is rare, health insurance and pay is not great for contract employees.
I don't see any benefits other than fulfilling your dream. Sometimes, it's ok to lose everything to get to your dreams.. They say love is blind for a reason. If it doesn't work out, you can come back to your normal life and at least you experienced your dream at that point.
Something to note, 1) Don’t trust recruiters on the possibility of convert. It’s like lotto telling you there’s a chance of winning the jackpot. 2) contract duration may not last as long as originally stated, especially during the current economy 3) You may feel like a 2nd class citizen, even if your manager or team don’t treat you like one. 4) Contractor earns only base salary, nothing else, even if medical/dental coverage is offered, it’s crap If you want to get some FAANG cred on your resume, then ya, being a contractor is like a shortcut. While it may open doors for you, you still need to be able to “walk through” the interviews.
Why don’t you do both?
You may already know this, but contractors are first to be laid off. You should take decision knowing that risk. Benefits are amazing for full time employees though.
Yeah agreed its a big gamble How is the environment there currently?
