Location - Hillsboro, Oregon. Role: Design Verification Engineer II Yoe: 2 Base: 131k. RSU: 150k Quarterly vest for 4 years after 1 year. Sign on: 50k. Over 2 years. Bonus base: 0-20% base. Bonus stock: 0-32k RSU refreshers. Recruiter did not mention the level. I think it’s L61. Not sure. I do have an offer from a startup. And an on-site with Nvidia the next Wednesday. My startup offer: Bay Area. Same role. Base 145k. 10% bonus. Sign on 40k 5000 units stock. Company at 1B evaluation. The estimated stock price at this point is 61. The strike price is 23. So profit would be $38 per stock. IPO might be at $3-5B. Or an acquisition. We don’t know. Nvidia on-site interview on Wednesday next week. Can someone please comment on the offer? And give me some tips on how to negotiate? This is my first negotiation. I didn’t negotiate when I joined intel because of me being naïve then. Edit: The startup is going to apply for my I-140 after one year based on performance. I have my priority date confirmed with intel and the I-140 is in progress. Need to apply for premium and finish it off. That’s why I’m inclined towards Microsoft or any big company as of now.
Which startup is it. ? Is all depends on the startup, future prospects and how much you believe they will succeed. If everything is positive, go for startup. Will learn alot.
It is Tenstorrent. But even in Microsoft, it is a new team and a project without any legacy code. Learning might be comparatively slow w.r.t. the startup but it is not as bad. And also, the startup is going to apply for my I-140 after one year. I have my priority date confirmed with intel and the I-140 is in progress. Need to apply for premium and finish it off. That’s why I’m inclined towards Microsoft.
Agree ! With the visa problem, I would go for Microsoft. Not worth the sleepless nights because of visa.
Make it a poll I would suggest startup if you don’t have work visa dependency
Sure. But the startup is going to apply for my I-140 after one year based on performance. I have my priority date confirmed with intel and the I-140 is in progress. Need to apply for premium and finish it off if I decide to move. I’m on my 2nd year of H-1B right now. That’s why I’m inclined towards Microsoft.
Rule of thumb, if you are on work visa don’t join a startup Doesn’t matter I-140 approved or not
Pretty good offer from MSFT for 2yoe.
Really good offer from Msft for 2 yoe. I was offered 125/100/4/40 signon divided by 2 years. They have stepped up! I was 3 yoe. Hillsboro
Hey! Did you take the offer? Are you at Microsoft now?
Nope I didn’t. Too low. You have much better for less YOE. Go for it!
Take MSFT offer, gain more experience first, then think about jump to a better place.
Thank you for that! I’m definitely thinking to take Microsoft. But I just want the best dollar amount. Any comment on the numbers?
