interviewed at msft late in may (a week+ ago). I haven’t heard anything from the recruiter expect they will get back to me when they will. He mentioned my level (target 66) requires a diversity slate hiring approach since I’m non diverse. I’m all for diversity, but im becoming disinterested in the role at this point because of the wait. How long does this typically take? I could keep bugging the recruiter, but I need the blind community reality check. Tc 385 and dropping.
It could take forever . I got an offer from the team this year in Feb for which I had interviewed in Sept last year.
Did you take it?
Microsoft is very slow, a week is nothing. Even without the other interviews. Also there was just a freeze/slowdown announced so you might have gotten into the “now needs higher approval” bucket if you interviewed in E+D org
Heard about that, but this org is in Azure. Wasn’t sure if this was impacted as well
I don’t think Azure is impacted but a week is still not much. They are required at a certain to interview a minimum number of people for the role, so could easily take a week or more given the holiday to do that.
Wouldn’t msft pay less than what you’re making?
There it is. I was waiting for this comment (albeit, it’s a lot nicer than expected) You’re right, I think the sign on and vest might be comparable for 4 years tho. Maybe. Probably not.
What level were you at meta?
5
I guess MSFT 65 = FB E6 is just a lie, right? That's what I suspected.
You could be waiting forever. If the position is L66 it is hard enough to find ANY qualified candidate let alone candidates that meet the diversity requirements. Essentially, there is no estimate. If I were in your shoes knowing what I know I would reach out to the hiring manager directly on LinkedIn and ask them if there are any active candidates they are planning to interview and when that meet the requirements. They need to interview two such candidates. If you don’t get specific dates for when this candidates are being interviews then there’s no one else in the pipe. You can tell the HM a reasonable hard date (say 2 weeks) and if there’s no offer by then, you’ll have to take or look for a competing offer. That’s the only way to light a fire. Otherwise there’s no motivation to accelerate anything. HMs CAN get past the diversity slating by getting VP approval which is essentially 50/50 depending on the VPs mood that day. So you’re hoping to light a fire and the HM seeks a VP exception.
most complete answer. we posted at the same time :p
sorry op. it might take forever. it's not easy to find diversity candidate. especially for L66. either they will find a sacrificial lamb à la wells Fargo (which I hope they don't) or they will actually search for ones to actually interview which might take really long. any diversity ready for L66 work is probably already getting lots of $$ somewhere else. is there an equivalent thing as diverse slate at Meta?
Meta has central hiring and there’s lots of qualified diversity in the candidate pools.
No need to be sorry, thanks for the response. I’m not sure about the diversity slate at meta, it was just a week+ before an offer. They don’t hire for an individual team (mostly). When people are in boot camp managers and senior ics reach out to everyone to entice them to come to their team. I haven’t seen a forced “You must hire X” here.
This is absolutely BS. If you’re the most qualified candidate in the pipeline, it shouldn’t matter.
Tell that to Satya and the Board
What even is a diversity hire? Non white male? Non Asian male? I don’t get it. So if I’m a white guy, who’s gay, am I diverse? I mean how stupid have we become.
> i’m all for diversity Poetic justice 🍿
You seem like you’d be fun at parties
Diversity would be the most prominent part of your yearly perf reviews. You would write and explain what you have done for diversity. Your promo and rewards are based on diversity efforts. And there's a target for diversity promos. And that's assuming you pass the diversity barrier to get in. I'm glad you are supportive of diversity.
lol that's why we have soooo much diversity in our company. from leadership to middle managers we see so much black/latino/women folks.. ridiculous

TF is a diversity slate?
for principal+ hiring, a diverse hire must also be interviewed in the name of diversity.
You need to make sure one female, or an underrepresented person has the chance to interview for the position. I would think they would time box it
