Hi guys, newbie to Blind here. i have been working in the public accounting industry for 3.5 - 4 YOE (Exp Senior with CPA). and want to explore options in big tech. Interested in MSFT but was confused with all the manager titles in their hiring so I need some advice Is the title always inflated in MSFT? I saw a senior role FM for like 4 years exp? If so, which level should I align myself into? What would be the comp I should expect as a reference? Public accounting senior role is a low pay and hard work job so it's not good case study here Any tips what they do for interview? Thanks a bunch #corpfinance #finance #microsoft #amazon #cpa
With 4 yoe, you would be hired at a L61 (finance manager) not higher
Thank you for reply. Do you know what would be a typical package comp for it?
Base 120k (probably the max), small signing bonus and small stocks (like $10k or $20k each)
Coming from Public accounting, you will have better luck applying for an accounting role and then rotating to a finance role after 1-2 years. Comp should be the same regardless.
thank you for advice
Levels.fyi should give you a decent idea
MSFT doesn’t really use the financial analyst or senior financial analyst role, so “manager” tends to be in all titles for 63 and below, and some 64’s. If you see an analyst role, it is most likely an entry level or intern role.
Yes, but depending on the team, it is rare to get into the company remotely unless you are close to an office to start.
Referrals always help. A good in would be to chat with some other finance employees in Canada, perhaps through LinkedIn and they can guide you on how strict they may be.
Tough choice
Big misconception during hiring is Finance Manager does not mean people manager. You will be considered an individual contributor. You don’t become a people manager unless the title is Group Finance Manager, Director, GM or above. Typically, the job description tells you exactly what they are looking for in terms of experience, other certifications, and skills🙂
Thank you!
