Microsoft Interview - Diversity Fake?

Have been contacted by an internal recruiter for an experienced role at Microsoft (L65). When planning for the interviews, they told me „we have a deadline until end of next week (for all interviews), then the hiring manager wants to decide, and I would really like you to join. And I assume you would also like to consider this opportunity.“ I asked if I am the only candidate: No, 4 internal male candidates and 2 external female ones are also in process. Obviously, I am the candidate who joined last minute. After reading through some posts here concerning diversity (e.g. specific number of diversity candidates required etc), I wonder whether this could be fake - just to satisfy diversity numbers. What’s your experience/opinion? And how to distinguish serious interest from fake diversity requests? Thanks in advance!

What checkbox do you fill? black, trans, female, or Indian … or all?

If your experience and skills align with the JD then go for it. If you’re in a different field and it’s hard to see why they would pursue you on paper then look out

Yes, both match very well to the JD.

MS had an official policy of requiring a minimum of URM (gender and racial minorities; nothing else counts) candidates looped for either 64+ or 65+. If any of the internal candidates are also internal to the team you’re almost certainly being interviewed to tick a box.

Good point. I will try to find out. It is difficult: I do not want to exclude myself from a good option - at the same time spending time for preparation when the game is already decided is not respectful, too.

Recruiter told you about gender of applicants?

Yes, he shared, maybe unintentionally/automatically?

I’m black male and Microsoft recruiters keep doing that with me as well. They just keep inviting me last minute and the interview goes great but I never hear back
