Microsoft L63 - Please rate my offer

I currently work remotely in Atlanta. The Microsoft offer is for Technology Specialist - Azure AI. It's hybrid, mostly remote, possibly a day here and there working with customers, so some travel which is a plus and minus in ways. I am absolutely going to counter offer, so let me know what you think. Update: I counter offered and now have a meeting with senior management. Final offer: Base 155k Equity: 90k over 4 years Bonus: 46.5k Sign-on Bonus: 25k Apparently I misunderstood the bonus. OTE is 30% of base for bonus. From my current understanding it's different from SWE comp at Microsoft which I've read the target bonus for L63 level is around 15%.

From what I understand, it's like if engineering had a baby with sales. Sales but not sales. It's pre-sales. The job: explain to a MS customer a Proof-of-Concept, get them to buy into Azure AI.

Oh and it sounds pretty cool to me 🙂

Technical specialist is a great job … i did it some years ago and do it again now and super happy about it. Yes your pure sales counter part makes more money because on a different comp plan but they also get riffed more easily … ts role has been reintroduced this year and is then considered as a “new” invest. The role should be “safe” for at least a year if not 2 before they assess again if they need it or not. Then in progression you can either move to gbb or pure sales from there .. these are natural transitions from ts role and both are on S plan for comp (more money). But with more money comes more expectations.

Thanks for the insights! Good to know the progression from this role into the future. Is this current offer decent as is for the role?

Hello! I just DM’d you to ask more about the technology specialist role because I really want to pursue this at MS! I have a few questions

Is equity per year?

Boeing mVsT24 OP Aug 10, 2023

Yes. This initial offer is 90k over 4 years = 22.5/yr. Feels low but that's why I'm here asking if it is.

Microsoft epg500 Aug 10, 2023

Boeing - I’m in this role, level and location. Your offer is pretty good. My Base was 140, sign on stock was 35 over 4 years. This was considered average for my cohort. Your bonus should be 30% of base and is standardized. Presales is a great role and wlb is solid.

Microsoft xQBf85 Aug 10, 2023

And when it comes to technical depth - your role does not dictate your curiosity level. Each role has a different bar for technical depth but down the line it does not stop you to dive into these tech you like as much as you want. TS owns technical decision in pre sale. Basically getting the customer buy in for technical approval by any mean that fit the best the customer query (demo / poc / pilot / architecture session / etc) and obviously you gotta do these pricing exercise

Equity is mid range. For 63 ts its 0 - 48k per year so target is 24k. You got a bit less than that.

Boeing mVsT24 OP Aug 10, 2023

Thanks for that. Know anything about sign on bonuses for 63?

Microsoft epg500 Aug 10, 2023

@microsoft - for 63 it’s 0-64, not 0-48. But also, you are referring to annual stock awards (over 5 years and awarded every year), not sign on stock, which is what OP is referring to (over 4 years)

Microsoft pbzaq Aug 10, 2023

Isn’t that an extreme lowball for L63? Just 195k?!

Boeing mVsT24 OP Aug 10, 2023

That's what I'm thinking too, even for Atlanta. Any comps or insight to share?

Microsoft epg500 Aug 10, 2023

No it’s not. This is a technical sales role, under the sales t-plan, not an engineering role

Hey, how long did they take after loop to give you an offer? I finished my loop for a diff role and had one more aa round where person explained role in detail. Now HM is saying there will be one more round but they are backlogged- i am not sure if this is Hr round or something else. If you have recently gone through the process can you please elaborate?

Boeing mVsT24 OP Aug 11, 2023

Hi @CabinFever, I interviewed last Thursday (3 individual, 3 hrs) with this new process thing they're doing called "The Hiring Squad". No As-Appropriate interview. On Tuesday, got the news an offer was being extended, but no numbers yet, then got an offer with the numbers in writing on Thursday. In short -- a week. I was told they're backlogged as well.

ex-Meta CabinFever Aug 11, 2023

Congratulations on the offer, and thank you for sharing your experience ! In my case they seem to be doing more rounds AA is done and HM is talking about one more round - may be they are buying time as i may be their 2nd choice and they may be waiting for top candidate to accept the offer (just a guess) OR it may be team specific!

Cisco mAwg00 Aug 11, 2023

Is MS hiring alot for these roles rn?

Microsoft Successful Aug 11, 2023

Capital One 🧢PiPOne Aug 11, 2023
