So apparently some companies don't do level up Even with more yoe. So targeting staff or principal with L63 is really hard with some companies. Recruiters pull up levels.FYI and match levels as much as they can. as per levels, Walmart staff is higher than L63 @microsoft So can I use this to target higher levels in the future for such companies for example tiktok, snowflake etc TC: 240k New TC: not yet disclosed due to holidays
MSFT >>> walmart. Walmart is exactly what it is…a chaotic super market! source: been there
Staff engineer is a lead role at Walmart which is equivalent to manager role tooso could you please elaborate how its not better than senior engineer role at Microsoft ?
I am not saying more responsibility is not better. It obviously is and will propell your career, but Walmart may not be the place provided you are already at microsoft. Why not continue the grind a little more till you land staff/more senior role at a better company? But just my two cents…you may have more compelling resoning to join Walmart which my perspective could not see!
You can target staff roles as a senior engineer. Most recruiters would be happy to consider you for staff even at top companies with 15 yoe. The challenging part would be demonstrating how you've been working in a staff capacity though. They'd expect that your current experience demonstrates what would be expected in a staff level engineer.
What is generally expected for Staff? As in, what experiences would you expect to see in someone to feel comfortable hiring them in a Staff role?
Generally staff level expectations would include working at an org wide level. Leading projects that span multiple teams, org wide contributions that help move the company forward in achieving various OKRs, being able to create new scope for teams and delegate work accordingly to get things across the finish line. Staff is a much more "leadership" type position. You obviously don't have direct reports but you're expected to lead large architectual decisions and be able to help create a road map for the engineers under you. I'm not a staff engineer yet but these have been my observations. Others can probably elaborate more. The hardest part about up leveling from senior to staff would be proving your scope in your current role was wide enough to give confidence that you are able to perform at a staff level.
Dm for snowflake referral
OP, did u consider saying 64 to recruiters and see if that helps getting staff level interviews?
Its not about just getting interviews Its about saying projects and examples of staff level project experience during interviews Thats where I see I can't showcase my skills
Yoe?
