Instead of Satya Nadella cutting his paycheck like Tim Cooks did. He cut 5% of his workforce. Those who work at Microsoft, how did the news come? #tech #microsoft
Microsoft carries a lot of dead weight. Shedding some will do it good in the long term. Sad for those who will get impacted though.
The dead weight we keep talking about, I feel most of it is in leadership. There are unnecessary levels of leadership/management which effectively do nothing. I would rather have them layed off, which is never going to be the case.
Worked there 8 years. They can cut half of folks and none of their products would be affected
Lot of dead weight in the management ranks. Let’s hope there’s cleaning taking place.
Do you know if there is a hiring freeze across the board ?
Via e-mail. One won’t hear anything else other than Satya’s email unless you’ve been impacted.
Do you know if folks impacted today have started receeiving emails?
Cutting ceo comp doesn't save jobs to be clear.
Exactly … severance right off is $1.2B. CEO comp is a fraction 3% - $42.9M
What is the severance package?
6 months
Wow really! That is huge
Org based or performance based?
Both usually
This layoff saves something in the order of billions per year. Satya's paycheck isn't that high
Do the laid off employees have access to email/chat etc? An ex-Microsoft employee wrote on LinkedIn how humanely Microsoft handled his layoff. He went to campus and met his old team.
Yes, they do

We already knew from blind rumours. Today morning got email from Satya
Sorry to hear. What’s the severance pay?
I think its 2months + 1 week for every 6months you worked. 6 months stock vesting
