I'm an SRE II at Microsoft with TC of ~265k. Today I was offered a contract-to-hire position at Oracle. 6 months @ $156.25/hr (325k per year, W2 not 1099) Convert to $330k salary after 6 months. This is obviously a risk, but sounds pretty legit. I'd be working with technologies I prefer (Linux, kubernetes, python), vs all the Windows stuff I'm currently doing. I know the benefits will be crap when I'm a contractor, but I'm thinking I can tough it out for 6 months to get a minimum of 65k boost in TC, probably more with benefits etc on top of that much higher base salary. Please let me know your thoughts! How much of a risk is going to contract-to-hire? I live in Seattle and this is a job that requires security clearance which gives me some leverage in ensuring my conversion as it's hard to find candidates with this clearance level. #microsoft #oracle #aws #offer #offers
Did you take it?
Im confused why they dont just hire you
Just because my initial contact was through a third-party staffing agency
Ive seen a similar sre successful hire at venmo but honestly its too much risk. Id just try to get in via fte no matter how much they offer
