Are there any jobs at Microsoft where I can use a Mac and code in Scala?
Use a mac yes, Scala not that I am aware of
Yes on azure big data ml teams they code all the new things in scala for Spark
Scala is used pretty heavily at apple - and obviously we use macs- is Microsoft really required here ?
I like Apple, but I find their careers page more difficult to use than Microsoft's. I want a particular type of role and I'm not sure how to find it at Apple.
What are you looking for ? I can help you out - we have great scala engineers here and it's used for quite a bit of our big data stuff.
Look here https://github.com/Azure/mmlspark
Some data teams at Microsoft use Scala but you will definetely need other programming language skills C#, Java, Python... Many UX developers at MS use Mac.
Which team?
What team dude?
Haha some teams use macs heavily (obviously iOS Devs on All platforms do) Scala is used pretty extensively for some data engineering teams. I'm not sure what the intersection of those two is but you might find some in our cloud and enterprise division or AI+r. Just stay away from Windows if you want to use a Mac. They're all over the place in Office. Like I got one of the new 15 inches from Microsoft as my dev machine. Almost all the designers use Macs too. Honestly I don't think people care as long as you can get things done.
Yeah, the AI team looks interesting. Also nice that it's in the Bay Area.
Does LinkedIn count? Lol. We have a lot of teams that use Scala—most of our front-end server side code is written in Play/Scala. We also get Macs, unless you request a Windows laptop.
I pretty much hate the product. So don't see myself working there. No offense meant to you. Just my preference.
None taken; it's your own personal preference. Though I will add that LinkedIn isn't just one product. That's like saying Google is just a search engine, or that Facebook is just a social networking site. There are lots of different teams here—so it's worth looking into. Many people are surprised at how many teams there are, at LinkedIn, when they interview.
Macs are common in frontend development, but I was searching about Scala too, nothing besides Big Data team
