A recruiter informed me that the bonus for a role is 0-30%, with "target" being mid point. Could anyone provide insight on how difficult or rare it is to get a bonus beyond target/mid point? TC 320
Generally 15% of base is what is you get on an average
It isn't too hard, but you generally won't be consistently getting more than your bonus target without promotion, which has a sort of recalibrating effect on your ability to get bonuses. You need to be consistently performing better than average in your level in order to get better than average rewards, and doing that gets progressively more difficult with each promotion.
Meeting target is considered as doing all the tasks you were assigned in the intended timeline which is not very difficult (100%). If you finish your tasks prior and move on to other tasks or take initiative for improvements contributing to team productivity you go above target. An ex of this would be to write wikis, improve automation pipelines and guide team members on their problems. You can also try to negotiate tasks with your manager which inherantly would generate more impact and visibility like higly requested customer features. These would directly land more customers and hence take notice in the higher management. As a L60 i was told that doing this much would comfortably land me in the 140% range. For landing 180%+ impact (top talent), you would need to be an absolutely indespensible asset to the team. People rarely consistantly manage this as they get promoted which increases their responsibilites. All in all the average msft employee manages target if not better in most cases.

I would say if you’re a good (above average) employee, it’s not terribly difficult to get what we call 120% or 140% (which is, 120% of your target, meaning .15 * 1.20 or 1.40) The odds of getting anything higher are pretty damn slim and I would not count on it happening consistently.
This depends on the group. For some, 80% is sold as normal.
