I'm a UX Design student (well-respected university, prev internship at IBM, lots of side projects) currently looking for a referral for Microsoft's UX Design internship. I would absolutely love to work for Microsoft, but it's hard to stand out in the immense pool of applicants, unfortunately... :) Anyone willing to help me?

Sadly, referrals work only for industry hires at least 1 year (or two? don't remember) after graduation. University recruiting is a separate process. I suggest you get in touch with UX designers at the company directly, they might help.
Oh really? A Microsoft University recruiter posted on LinkedIn that a referral is possible for sure!
