I have been in Microsoft for 3.5 years now. Joined at L59 directly from college. Now at L61 (promoted 1 year ago). Microsoft froze any increments last year (No SSA yet). I was comparing compensation with Amazon and got to know that for the same level/experience Amazon pays about 40 LPA. I always knew that Microsoft pays lower, but suddenly it started to feel that Microsoft compensation is very very low now. Has this much difference came in recent years when Amazon increased its compensation, or Microsoft is always paying very less ? I want to know how others are feeling, while the merit increase freeze has comparatively lowered our compensation. Am I unable to understand the so called DEAL at Microsoft that is claimed to be matching the industry ? What do you think? Would the average pay decrease in all companies by Hiring/Firing techniques citing Macroeconomic conditions. Is it worth to consider switching to Google or Amazon these days assuming they are hiring. Base: 24 LPA (Compa-ratio 0.9)
Microsoft targets 66th percentile pay in its peer group. If you are a strong performer at Microsoft, you probably don’t belong at Microsoft.
It must include WITCH companies, banks, government jobs etc as its "peers". Among its true competitors, it pays 10th percentile probably.
Microsoft is desi 🥜 factory
Microsoft is well known to be the worst payer in the big tech. This gap only increases as you go up the levels. Expect to be paid 40-50% less than the top market pay bands for equivalent level at Microsoft But people don’t go to work for Microsoft for the money. They never have. One goes to Microsoft for good WLB and an easy retirement
24:40 Microsoft:Amazon ratio is normal even in the USA. Microsoft is just a super lowball company compared to its size and reputation. I'm pretty sure when I went from L60 Microsoft to 2-1 at Bytedance, my TC became around the same as my long-tenure L65 manager. No one believes me but my WLB actually improved. Not every team at Microsoft has good WLB.
Microsoft pay is lowest at the lower levels. Different is not that much once you cross 65/66.
Not true. The gap worsens at 66/67. One needs to get a 68 partner to hit a comparable comp for E7. That is just bonkers
I have seen level 65 joining meta at a lower level with better TC.
24LPA base seems low for L61. How much do you get in stocks at the moment?
I am SDE2 with 24 base and 8.5 years of exp
They dont pay everybody knows that, it used to be so called stable company which it isnt as they layoff too
We pay much more than Msft and that’s not saying much
