I need Microsoft folks to kindly provide insights on this. My wife is Hispanic and she was contacted by a Microsoft recruiter for screening interviews with a partner and a senior director at Microsoft. However, the position is showing “No longer accepting applications”. Based on past experience, wife is concerned that they want to interview her to meet diversity slate requirements and she will be rejected. She asked the recruiter for clarifications on why the position appears to be closed. The recruiter said “I don’t know how you came across this information. We haven’t entered final round interviews as yet. Be rest assured you’re being considered and screened.” Microsoft folks, please what’s your take on this? #tech #microsoft UPDATE: She had the two screening interviews but she was sent a rejection today. It could be that she was interviewed to meet the diversity slate.
Not sure what is happening here but can confirm have been involved in atleast one interview loop where it was clearly just happening to check off a diversity requirement box. It felt really slimy.
This could be true. She was rejected after the two interviews, which went very well
I have lots of diversity on my teams. Your wife should be prepping for the interview and not be stressed thinking about this bullsh!t! If the position was closed, she would not be interviewed.
Currently hiring and we pull jds these days before loops and offers because of the overwhelming number of candidates we’re getting for each role if the hiring manager is confident they can hire from the pool. If she was screened by two senior folks she is likely being considered as a finalist. We do have diversity slate requirements - I had so many candidates for my role that I had no problem meeting the requirement with a set of folks who were are strong candidates.

The hardest part of the interview pipeline is getting the interview. It must be nice to be a favored demographic group. My wife had a Microsoft "diversity" recruiter set her up once for interviews. They didn't even try to hide the discrimination. Also she felt like she did well in the interview and she clears for top companies, so it was sus she didn't get an offer. I could see managers playing the diversity game too.
Tell her to prepare, they want to hire women and minorities. It may not be already decided.
Even if they are only interviewing for the slate, if she is good, they will refer her to another opening.
Positions don't close just because we received enough applications. It doesn't close until the candidate has accepted the offer, either. It's not a usual scenario, so who knows?
Not accepting more offers isn’t the same as closed…I have internal applications still pending saying this but they haven’t hired yet because that auto denies everyone
