I've been contemplating quitting Microsoft for a while after always hearing stories of much higher compensation at other places. I decided to go to levels.fyi and start pulling data by total years of experience, in the Greater Seattle metropolitan area. Because I was getting a ton of results, I decided to further filter by "full stack" and only show the last yr of results. I analyzed the data, but to save space, I'll just share averages and years of experience 2 through 4. The only thing is, there's only 100 to #engineering 150 data points per year of experience, with Facebook and Google having data in the single digits so, for those two companies, take the info with a grain of salt. But as you can see, even when compared to other companies other than Amazon, FB, and Google, you see Microsoft still pays below the standard. The values shown are avg salary, stock, bonus, and Sum of all 3, respectively. Sorted in order from lowest to highest TC: 2 years of Total Experience: Microsoft: 127.3k, 30.4k, 17.9k, 175.5k Amazon: 131.3k, 35.0k, 14.9k, 181.1k All other: 134.8k, 38.6k, 12.6k, 186.1k Google: 138.3k, 64.0k, 20.7k, 223.0k Meta: 151.2k, 60.3k, 30.5k, 242.0k 3 yrs of Total experience: Microsoft: 132.1k, 28.3k, 18.4k, 178.8k Amazon: 140.2k, 48.0k, 11.4k, 199.5k All Other: 146.4k, 53.7k, 10.5k, 210.6k Google: 153.0k, 67.3k, 20.0k, 240.3k, Meta: 170.8k, 118.5k, 22.2k, 311.5k 4 yrs of Total Experience: Microsoft: 137.3k, 30.7k, 18.1k, 186.1k, Amazon: 142.5k, 56.5k, 14.2k, 213.1k, All other:. 150.7k, 57.2k, 18.2k, 226.1k, Google:. 158.7k, 89.3k, 24.7k, 272.7k Meta: not enough data. (1 entry only). Btw, all other companies accounted for 30 to 45% of all the data. #microsoft #google #facebook #meta #amazon #compensation
I could have told you if you asked. No need to analyze.
Also I don’t think it’s useful to filter by full stack. Pay should not be much different especially at bigger companies.
MS only pays competitively for new grad. Sorry you missed the note
By the way, Amazon really upped their pay game recently but levels.fyi doesn’t seem to reflect that. It’s not just a PR stunt but their offer is really high.
Maybe it’s only few offers that are high for PR.
ms pays for new grad and at 68+
Yes, hat's what I noticed looking at years 0, 1, and even to some degree 2. MSFT pay in those cases seems to be competitive. As the years of experience increase the gap gets bigger and bigger... But I never reached level 68 so I don't know exactly what the data looks like when you have that many years if experience.
I could have told you that without looking thru the data 😂
I know bruh... But I would have asked for data to back up your claim 😄

You’re comparing tier 1 companies like MANGA to tier 2 companies like MSFT MSFT pays average for tier 2
More like tier 3
I don't understand what the joke is but point taken...
