What’s happening at ms lately, I’m at offer stage with them and this is second such post about msft
It’s happening everywhere. Wfh makes it easy to dodge accountability. That’s why there doesn’t exist a future where majority of employees wfh
Please tell me if nutanix to msft is an upgrade or downgrade? I’m totally clueless.
and then some pappu youtubers will. be like i joined msft... will make that shocking face as thumbnails.. as if they got heaven... make college grads fools lol
Those videos are aimed at tier 3 colleges or people in WITCHCRAFT like me
@Cognizant Can you expand WITCHCRAFT?
Rly I’m at amazon I feel the same way except I’m exploring going to Microsoft for the WLB lol
I’m at a law firm which I love, but might get an offer for a Cloud Solutions Architect at AWS. You think it’s worth the switch for the prestige on the resume?
That really depends on what type of companies you want to target in the future. Ultimately you can go to amazon for 2 years. Being miserable for 2 years isn’t awful, but don’t be like me and be miserable for 4. It was toxic from day 1. I’m not exaggerating. Day 1. I saw someone undeserving get fired less than 2 months on the job. Pressure to deliver and perform is very high. Lots of people give off the impression that they love working long hours etc, and most even convince themselves it’s their personality. In reality, people are doing what you want to do, which is get the name on the resume. They’ll work 60+ hours because they think amazon on resume = made career. The truth is being a software developer in general = made career. You don’t need amazon. So to answer your question, take it if you want to work ur ass off at any big tech company making 2x more than other average company’s, but at the severe cost of your WLB and quality of life. It’s a tradeoff. Amazon would really help if you anticipate the next 5-10 years of your life you want to be in big tech. But amazon isn’t that helpful if you anticipate you want to go there for 2 years then leave and live a normal life at an average company. I’m speaking purely from a resume standpoint. As a learning experience you can’t go anywhere better than amazon. It’s very fast paced, you’re constantly pushed to learn more and more. You will grow immensely as an engineer at amazon. That’s indisputable. But one of the major reasons you grow so much is because you’re pressured into working so many hours. Also this is just my expefience and opinion. There have been times amazon was great. My second team was filled with awesome people and by far my favorite team out of 3. I still keep in touch with some as friends. It’s also where I was respected the most and although I was still working 50-70 hours I did somewhat enjoy it because I was successful. If you are not successful (not willing to work that much) then you may be miserable and stressed
Same here
You owe me $30, Intuit
Yup. Most of my team seems to have zoned out since we had a few members leave recently for better opportunities. Remaining people barely give input during design discussions, on-call is beginning to get worse as root-causes aren't being established, and everyone just does the base minimum to get by. People don't expect raises or promotions so no real incentive for them to work hard. We've been trying to hire new team members for a while now but without any luck.
Geez, i just spoke to a recruiter, anyway i want an offer from ms
Same at amazon
Stop crying and GTFO
Really? If you have a better place to go, it is fine. Before I joined Microsoft, my former employer was terrible. Low TC, no management, etc. When wanted to quit from my previous work place, my boss did not know what happens. If you see something worst than Microsoft, Microsoft is pretty good.
That’s a low bar lol.
ex-WITCH spotted
A good friend of mine, L62 at MSFT vwyf last month for Senior SWE role at Uber. With them gone and with literally everyone around me is new hire, I feel low. Have zero motivation to stay. Doing LC for some time now.
did Satya really say vwyf and GTFO?
Pretty much, SLTs action speaks louder than words.
If u like to work hard or chill. You decide. I used to work at Ford it was even more chill. Love it.
I think MSFT can run on chill engineers so they see no need for super driven people. It can be a good fit for people that are okay with the comp and don't feel the need to "grind" hard
