Any updates on Microsoft hiring freeze ? How long will this last ? Had final interviews scheduled but got cancelled. Tc : 210k
Companies are extending hiring freezes rn, not ending them. Sorry
And the Democrats just passed a corporate tax hike. So basically for a while.
I’m confused - there are a bunch of positions listed online; many of which just got posted within the past couple days? If there’s a hiring freeze, how come new listings for SWE are being posted?
It was never a full freeze. But OP should not be waiting on anything, we hire team-specific roles so the one he interviewed for could be completely cut.
Yes the role an interviewing is team specific and recruiter confirmed it’s still in progress just that interview are paused for now. I just received a principal consulting offer but I have been wanting to get out of consulting for a while now and get my feet into tech.
My department has been hiring like crazy and Judson announced many more jobs will be opening this year. Doesn’t look at all like a hiring freeze in Enterprise Commercial.
Hiring freeze is not company wide. Many orgs, including the one I am in, have budget freeze and hiring slow downs for at least the rest of the fiscal quarter if not longer. Other orgs still hiring. Just depends on the org the team is in.
The role is within industry solutions - life sciences/healthcare

The recent bill that went through congress increases taxes on tech, so we’re likely in for layoffs long before hiring freezes are lifted.
If I had to guess I would say that the hiring freeze is a result of economic pressures. Raising interest rates and taxes force companies to slow or halt hiring, and sometimes, layoff. I would say this hiring freeze (Microsoft and otherwise) will probably last a while. Recessions tend to last months to more than a year, and ours just started. The new corp. taxes bill going to the house are likely going to result in more pressure.
I agree, layoffs lag the start of a recession by 12-18 months, so that has this slowdown lasting at least through 2023.
