That’s amazing for Nashville

Amazon MileSmiles Jul 23, 2023

So you say. Coworkers are living an hour away because they can’t afford local housing.

Microsoft CosmicGing Jul 26, 2023

I made 130k TC and lived literally a mile from broadway in Nashville in a furnished townhouse. If you have to live an hour outside of it, you’re doing something wrong.

Wow, seeing your offer really takes me back. I was on a $140k TC as a SWE at MSFT, and that was over in the Seattle metro area. Now to imagine pulling in that kind of TC, but in Nashville, TN? It's a game changer. Landing a gig with a big name like MSFT in such a comfortable city... you'd be set. Personally, I'd grab that opportunity, plan to stick with MSFT, and enjoy the good life in Nashville.

I don’t see why anyone would wanna live in backwards Tennessee. WA is the most beautiful state in the country

Investment Bank Glinda Jul 24, 2023

Assembly5, have you ever been to Nashville? It's safe, more affordable than King Co, and a burgeoning tech hub. As someone who lived in Redmond for 15 years, I would certainly be open to Nashville. The Seattle area has turned to crap - too many progressive transplants and druggies

Microsoft krfvx Jul 23, 2023

I would suggest research levels.fyi and see what is the latest trend for L63 in Redmond and negotiate equity, sign on bonus to that level/amount. Base should only vary as per the county you live in the US otherwise you can easily get other components same as your level in Redmond.

Lowe’s FOVq75 Jul 24, 2023

Is that true for all companies or just MSFT

Microsoft krfvx Jul 24, 2023

Don’t know about other companies but this is the pattern I have seen at Microsoft and I also used it during my negotiation. Initial offer was shit and I knew recruiter is trying to get me in with that. I know a few people who did not negotiate and took whatever recruiters presented first.

Microsoft slothHERE! Jul 23, 2023

Tough to say since it is TN. There isn't a lot of data points

Microsoft geckoman Jul 23, 2023

You can get a better sign on, the V-HR folks have more wiggle room with stock bonus than base comp

Oracle 56dsah7 Jul 23, 2023

That's a solid offer. Just understand that your bonus is going to depend on a lot of things, primarily how much your manager and skip want to argue for you. I know people who consistently doubled their target year after year at microsoft, but in addition to absolutely blowing it out of the water, they had skips who were terrified they would leave and we're willing to bend over backwards to advocate for them.

You can buy two mansions there congratulations

Oracle 56dsah7 Jul 26, 2023

Nashville's a lot more expensive than it used to be. It's still not as crazy as what we'd pay here on the west coast, but you're still looking at ~$600k for something that still falls short of a mansion (example: https://www.redfin.com/TN/Nashville/1036-24th-Ave-N-37208/home/104482373 ). It's basically priced like the nicer parts of Tacoma were 6-7 years ago.
