With all the hype around generative AI, it's a no-brainer to use tools like Google Suite (Docs, Gmail), Notion, etc. However, I still don't understand why Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) lags behind. As someone who has to write a ton of documents, messages, and emails, I find that the functionality that modern document and email editors provide is far superior, even just in terms of grammar correction. Yet, Microsoft Office still feels like it hasn't changed in the last 15-20 years. Why is the Office team so far behind, even on basic features like fixing grammar and generative text? Is Microsoft Office the next Windows which will end up on its own death spiral?
I happen to like Office. It gets the job done and it’s familiar.

Google docs are not better than word
Which version of office are you using?
Latest version. To be fair, I don't need a notepad. I need something which can auto-complete my sentences, fixes grammar, or even suggest an entire doc for me.
Office 2013 is far more powerful than gdoc today. Oh well, most people don’t need editing, they just need a notepad.
You’re a 🤡 if you think Google docs is better and more capable than office. The business world literally runs on Excel and Word— for a reason.
what features you see lacking in word Outlook?
We had the google suite of products at my old company and it stunk. I find the updated MS office awesome. I can record my presentations, dictate all my notes or have the system auto check it or use ChatGPT to review it.
Well people don’t really use Microsoft Office because it is easy to use…
