I am in the process of interviewing at microsoft for a senior software engineering position. I was surprised to hear from the recruiter that the base salary for the position would be between $120k-150k. This seems low for a senior position. Given the market condition, have the salaries gone down? Current TC: 250K Update: Location: Seattle YOE: 5
Microsoft has always had bottom tier pay.
Well that .ight be the salary.. UT Microsoft offers CBI (company based incentive each year), they pay your Healthcare premiums and you get stock typically when you hire on and every year when the CBI is given out. So TC...will be higher.
Still that base is way off imo. May be the market is resetting
Depends on location
lol - Mastercard in Missouri pays $130k base for a senior
Mastercard doesn’t give much stock
What’s your YOE and location?
Updated the post.
My base salary as a newly promoted L62 (SDE II) at Microsoft Redmond office 5 years ago was $147k. Senior (L63) should be at least $180k now in Redmond
Sounds about right https://www.levels.fyi/companies/microsoft/salaries/software-engineer/levels/senior-sde?minYac=0&maxYac=0
I was under the same impression that the base should at least be $180k. But it seems like they are lowballing me.
You might want to look at LinkedIn instead. Same company but much higher salary! SDE2 at LinkendIn base salary is already close to 200k.
Negotiate. Base can go upto 170k. Don’t expect top of the band offers unless you have competing offers from FANG, which in this market is difficult.
