Hi fellow blinders, Could you please help with evaluating below offers. YOE: 6 Amazon (L5) - 82k base/ 56k, 46k year1 & 2 joining bonus / 1500 units - 150k ish GBP Microsoft (L64) - 100k base/7k car allowance/15% bonus/260k stock - 180k ish GBP Points to consider: * Although the difference between the two offers is huge, difference in post-tax pay for the first 2 years is about 10k as RSU's are taxed differently in the UK * Greenfield project in IAM team in Amazon vs Commercial Software Engineering (Client facing) team in Microsoft * "No on-call for this project" - Hiring Manager @ Amazon * Lesser role and responsibilities in Amazon
Usually the only reason people pick Amazon over any other big tech is TC. In your case MSFT is offering more so it’s a no-brainer. You say lesser role and responsibility in Amazon, wait till you have a deadline coming up, it will all be downhill from there
Good comps for the UK 👍 Microsoft is clear winner in this case for me.
What's commercial software engineering? Is it like B2B and enterprise?
Yes, helping other businesses with scaling challenges. Would involve both designing/improving architectures and doing POCs/building base level code
I’d only pick Amazon if it offered more than MS.
Needless to say, Microsoft should be the choice. Amazon London has lots of shitty SDMs and you don’t want to mess yourself with some office politics there. My friend had to change team within the first 6 months when they joined the company.
How did he change in 6 months though? Don't they have 6 months of probation in UK that blocks transfers?
