I went through Microsoft and Google benefits and they’re almost the same. Is there anything that Google offers but Microsoft doesn’t? (I know there’s free food)
Prestige
Dont belittle the food perk. Its free and it tastes way better than the expensive garbage they have at MsCafe
Is the free food good? I actually like MSCafe food about 50% of the time lol
Microsoft has free food in Bay Area
Google Refreshers >>> Msft Refreshers
How much refresher do you get at Google?
Depends on the level.
Microsoft has ESPP and Car lease which G doesn’t have
Omg I love ESPP What’s the car lease?
+1, what's car lease???
We’re not stingy with swags and other office equipment.
No idea about office equipment, but very stingy with swags.
I worked at both. Equity refreshes are the biggest difference. Google does big ones annually. MS might give a little here and there and a bigger one near the cliff but still not as much as the initial grant. That might limit your tenure to 4-5 years. 401k match percentages might be different. I can't remember but that's a small difference compared to TC. Google offers fertility treatment like egg/sperm freezing. Both have a slew of minor benefits you will probably never use. MS is embracing remote work. Google is allowing more but it still seems like a special exception. I honestly hate it here. Unless you are the type of person who stays at one company for 5+ years, MS is probably worth the equity difference.
You hate Google? Why?
My project is a disorganized nightmare without a clear, explainable architecture and there's no apparent engineering direction at a higher level. It's split between too many tiny teams that just pass the buck when something is broken and get territorial when someone takes action in their area. Every change is an exercise in hacking a change in without disturbing the rest of the rat's nest. The tooling is hacky and unreliable. Some important tools are 20% projects that aren't fully supported. Besides daily status updates, my team's process is practically non-existent. I don't even know who our PM is. My manager is an "engineer who manages" who knows the project really well but is socially inept and really shouldn't be managing. A lot of the people here seem kind of socially inept. If you've ever interviewed on campus and thought it had a weird vibe, you were right! It's simply been a miserable experience.
Egg freezing maybe
