Remove WLB from pros under Microsoft. There are some good WLB teams in Microsoft but most don’t and even more unlikely if your team is in Azure.
It's an internal platform team and the HM said that they don't have on calls and wlb is priority. Still work wise looks like VMware will have more grinding. I'm ok with that to learn new skills.
I had the same offers Chose VMware My reasons VMware benefits are much better than Microsoft And if you are working in Microsoft azure 6 out of 10 times you are glorified IT support than Dev Also VMware culture is not dog eat dog culture people are good! I have been told layoffs affect sales and less engineering and for that matter microsoft did lay off ppl in 2020 during start of covid
Thank you. Wasn't aware of the Microsoft layoffs.
I was at VMware and now switched to Msft. For similar TC(+- 5-10%), I would choose Msft but for 25% TC difference I would choose VMware. I would recommend join VMware for more TC, work there for couple of years and move to Msft or elsewhere for relatively senior position and higher TC. Good Luck!
Thank you. Yes I was ready to decline the other offers even if they were about 20-30k more than Microsoft. But VMware offer is substantially more and that too in the base itself.
You are free to count bonus in tc at vmw as you’re very likely to receive it if you are meeting expectations (so first year tc is 265k)
Yes, they mentioned that I'll be eligible for prorated bonus in 2022 too. Which is not provided at Microsoft.
Microsoft consulting services has yearly Layoffs and PiP as well. Something to consider
Great offer from VMW. Also consider this, we have really high attrition and based on internal blind forum, many of them are not motivated enough due to low TC and focusing time on preparation. So you might end up working extra. Atleast that’s what I see in my group.
Don’t go to VMware I’ve been at both, M is miles ahead
Can you share more about your experience?
VMware is toxic There’s no accountability in review process The culture is very weak There’s just too many things that are missing in that company Stock has been stuck for a while now. It once was 200 General advice is don’t go there Especially if you’ve a M offer
VMC team is OK overall but VMware is going through a lot of macro challenges now. If you’d be happy with stock possibly staying flat to minimal growth (or like others are predicting a downslope) in the next 2-3 years welcome to join
True. But the difference between the base is high and the bonus would be higher.
Sure if you’re looking at a 2 year time period you may be able to minimize regret.
