I have close to 4 years of industry experience with PhD and I am trying to make a decision between both of the following companies: - A bigger company with 3000 employees a decent base salary with RSUs (think Twitter) - A smaller series B company with 300 employees with close to 100 engineers but at least +25k more on the base and impressive equity The technology stack and peers are comparable. My experience till date has always been in a company < 50 employees. Do you think joining the bigger company will be better for my career than joining the series B startup?
the one that value speed and hence move fast. you can learn much more in a team that’s hyper productive.
It depends on your priorities and growth. Think where you want to be in 3 years and want to achieve and see which company offers more of what you want in the future
One thing I realized recently is that having a “Google” or a “Facebook” in your resume gives you a lot of leverage and credibility no matter what your achievements are in a series B company. So if this mid sized company is a well known brand, I’d go for it. That said, if you are convinced about this series B company having a good exit, you can consider it too. Because equity without exit is worthless.
I'd say go with the one that interests you more. However, since you already have experience with a smaller company, depending on your age it might be worth going for the bigger one.
As in age > 35 bigger company?
I don't want to say a number because that's up to you, but something like that. I'm sure someone more experienced than me could give a better perspective though.
