Migrating to Canada from India worth it?

I got an offer from Nokia Canada for CAD135k. Is it worth considering the move/shift under work visa? YOE: 14 years, current location: India married & a single dependent kid of 6 years old Im still contemplating the decision as it will be a significant shift in lifestyle. Also the job profile I do not like it much too. #canada #engineering #software

Depends. Do you value family and extended family ties above anything else? That will suffer greatly if you move. If you secretly hate your extended family then Canada is perfect. Do you value good air, food, water, infrastructure, education and a stress-free life? Canada is right for you. How labour dependent are you and your spouse? Are you ok with cooking, cleaning and getting your hands dirty or are you dependent on a servant, cook and driver? Do you call an electrician to replace a light bulb and a plumber to fix a clogged basin? The single biggest cost of living difference bw India and Canada is the cost of labour. A Rs.100 service in India will cost $50 in Canada.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Specially the part about househelp. It was a big shock for us when we moved out and realised how lazy and dependent we got on servants, cooks etc

One good thing, though, is that in USA (and l, perhaps, in canada as well) you find so many tools to take care of your household things. In India it is so hard to find the right tools. What you can find with a trip to home depot., here in India, most of these are not even available on Amazon.

135K CAD is around 7.5K per month after taxes. For a family of 3, assuming you would need a 2BHK house, your expenses would be between 4.5K to 6K per month depending on lifestyle. Since you didn't write anything if your wife is also working, it looks like 135K CAD for a 14yoe is very low. You will have a better quality of life in India.

It's comparatively low but Ottawa is L/MCOL compared to Toronto. Move and jump the ship after obtaining the PR. But yeah, it is only feasible if you are okay with the initial low salary and lifestyle change. Goodluck eitherway.
