See attached. Seen this and similar circulating on Twitter as normies mock “overpaid” tech workers during the very public Twitter meltdown. Is this mentality pathetic or no? Certainly a common sentiment here and places like r/fatFIRE My take: that guy has been on a golden boy track his whole life, jumping through hoops, thinking that gets him anything he wants. Now a sudden realization that even though he’s in the top 1%, there are people in the top 0.01% he’ll never catch and he can’t cope. Instead of just being thankful for the position he’s in

It’s fairly common that you never feel content. You achieve something, work on it for ages and then the goalpost moves. It’s human mentality.
Yes, and that's fine. This is what has made humans thrive. Just make sure you are healthy, and accept that you don't have to be happy all the time. You are not entitled to anything. Make the best with what you have. Learn how the World works. You will eventually die (probably), and you could die any time. And that's fine, enjoy your time here and appreciate suffering.
The good ol hedonic treadmill
it’s issue english language not his post
I remember all the tech workers making fun of the coal miners saying they need to learn to code Now it seems tech workers may need to learn the trades. I suggest welding
When did tech workers make such fun? Can you share the thread ? I have never seen such thing. Tech is not going anywhere. So is the high tech tc. The only change which we are going to see is that the companies will be more careful about selecting resume. The interview process will be more aligned to the real life scenarios. So better keep preparing than spreading garbage. And turn your money into some asset class along with other investments.
I think that was liberal journalists not tech workers. Tech workers usually discourage anyone new from entering and depressing their wages.
You kiddos whine too much. You don't know what it's like to get high SAT scores, get into a top 5 school, become president of your fraternity, work hours in IB, ace your GMAT, go for an MBA at another top 5, and become partner in IB. That is hard work.
Actually a much safer path than tech :) and easier too
The neighborhood I grew up in, I have a few friends who followed this pathway. Must be hard work?
This isnt a tech thing, I used to work in finance and mentality among many is the same. They are never happy, chasing TC forever thinking that once they hit some next threshold then they'll be happy and start living their real life. Never stops until they retire/die.
Folks chasing TC is the carrot on the stick owners use to squeeze that little bit of innovation and productivity out of the worker bees. I see folks wanting that extra 10% raise etc and they’re miserable and too caught up to see the larger game.
Aren’t biz owners also chasing the carrot of surpassing richer biz owners
It's shocking how this person has that nw and title. They know nothing about basic finance and risk management (all in same companies and fields) and has no idea what kind of money other businesses make. At mid 30s still thinking corporate ladder in an already established company is going to bring them ahead They should be grateful to be in a system where they can have those privileges, because in the rest of the country and the world they would have no chance
Important comment. Financial literacy is more imp than anything. Looking at their comment about houses being desirable they have no control over emotions. If nothing people should learn how to trade ( risk management), it atleast gives you some additional income and teaches you to keep greed and fear in control
Based on his post he is too dumb to be even at this position. That he can’t figure out such simple things in life, 99.999% can’t afford $10MM house with being in rat race
The dude who lives in the 10M house whines about another guy who owns a 100M cruise ship. And the richest man in the world whines about a few people making 300k a year. Such is the circle of life.
So the true winners are the 300k engineers coasting
Yep, the faster people (collectively) stop glamourizing a rich lifestyle in a 5+ bedroom home (that you're not going to see much because your at work so much). The faster those 10M priced homes drop. Giving value by the consumer drives our market.
The problem with the Bay Area is you feel like you've made it career-wise, but the house you can afford doesn't match. You are living in a 1950s ranch with no yard. Anything that looks like success costs $5+ mil and just doesn't feel obtainable.
Have you heard about a city called New York? It's hilarious how Bay area people think they live in the only place in America with a high cost of living as a way to defend their absurdly inflated salaries.
@hsPa08 Have you heard about a concept called projecting? I don’t think google said anything about Bay Area being the only place with high COL. Just because they said it’s a problem there, doesn’t really imply that it’s not a problem anywhere else like NY.
It boils down to who you know. Sure there’s hard work involved but there are TONS of folks who work hard. The best ideas rarely ever win, it’s the ones who have the most financing and distributions in place.
😭 someone is richer than me boo hoo. let me tell you that their about 100 Million Chinese that have more 💰 than most Americans and not in tech.
You sure you’re not counting the same person again and again?
