I completed the phone screen and have my first ever interview with Karat. I have 0 experience with Karat although I have heard horror stories. Any tips on what I should expect? Any things that I should watch for/specific for Karat?
Karat is rubbish. Rip.
I dismiss all companies using karat. They don’t even want to talk to you, they’d rather hire some cheap skates to evaluate you. Apply elsewhere.
That’s not true lol. Karat may not be the best system but it’s a step in the right direction. It removes the need to interview many candidates that wouldn’t pass the interviews and as a result wastes less engineering time.
Karat interviewer here; it will largely be your standard technical interview. Most likely will consist of a short project discussion or some brief knowledge based questions followed by a 45 minute coding exercise consisting of up to three questions. The coding questions should be roughly LC medium though the first may be on the easy side and the third may be on the hard side. The one notable thing about our coding portion is we do focus on completeness so it is expected that your code compiles and runs in the editor. We consider optimality to some extent but it is not our primary focus. For this reason, I would suggest familiarizing yourself with the editor before the interview in addition to the standard leetcode prep.
I just did the MongoDB karat interview about a week ago, it wasn't bad at all. Got through a LC easy/med and a LC med
Which position? How was your interview experience?
