How long will this lawsuit continue. If uber loses, how are they going to pay 2B in damages? Thats a lot of money.
I should have accepted the Lyft offer I received a year ago.
All these news articles conveniently skip the part where Jacob backed off those claims in court, saying they are exaggerated and his lawyer wrote them and for some reason he didn't proof read any of it
Great opportunity for SoftwareBank to low ball even further (40% discount?). Uber looks more like a third world company than US company. I know this kind of corruption is wide spread in developing countries or some developed countries like Japan and Italy but Uber has its own innovative ways of hacking around and it is surprising it was able to operate in this way for quite some time.
Before you go accusing corporations in third world countries of doing shady things like this routinely, can you cite some examples?
I am not sure if I even need to explain this because everyone knows?? Japanese taking people to secret bars where there is escort like service? Korean Chaebol? You know Samsung chairman is in prison along with numerous other big companies executives in Korea. Do I even need to talk about China and India? Why do you think Indians are trying everything to remain in US? Eastern European countries are shit hole with corruption parties by politicians which force companies to follow it. Why are so many great programmers from there coming to US? I am surprised you even ask that question. If you work in tech, you already know lots and lots of people from all over the world and most likely had conversation with them. You would have been tempted to search the internet about why the mess in those countries and derive to conclusion that economy and development in the country has strong correlation with corruptions. Those countries don’t have enough resources to clean up the corruption and people are making 1/20th of US people because of unfair distribution and poor economy. That could have been caused by corruption or that caused corruption. Regardless, level corruption in developing countries are at unimaginable level. Why do you think India does not have a single company that can sell products outside of the country with its own name brands while half of software engineers seem like from India in many tech companies in US? I didn’t mention China because it is too well known that even middle schoolers know it. In general, level of corruption correlates to the economic status of a country. You can imagine corruption in countries in orders like Japan < Korea/Taiwan < Eastern European countries < China, Russia < India, Ukraine, Vietnam...
I’m glad that I work at Uber for two reasons: 1) It’s the best company I’ve ever worked for. 2) I’ve realized that the press just wants a story and even if it’s unfounded, they’ll push it to get the clicks. I’m really sad that so many people out there just blindly believe the narrative that has been presented to them. I feel really sorry for you all.
“Whatever it takes” is the Uber culture. That means pushing all ethical boundaries.
You all understand that Uber drivers and offices are attached by under-world backed criminals in almost all countries except the US, Canada, and Europe?
And this is surprising? We all knew for years Uber is essentially an organized crime operation and journalists and have been sounding the alarm for a long time now. Their entire business model is based on breaking state, local, and federal laws. Uber’s leaders should be indicted under the RICO act.
But hiring CIA-trained spies? That's something else. I'm impressed by the level they've taken this to. Kalanick seems like a misguided but genius guy.
