GL, not a recruiter, but a soon to be laid off early career swe
@TNEy83 Swe in Google?
Lol no. Just another soon to be laid off swe
Fucking hell
Until interest rates are back at target, which could take a few more years, tech isn’t going to hire in droves.
We need a new president to stop tech layoffs
Yea I heard the president has a magic 🪄 and they can make layoffs go away
How would that work exactly?
It always starts with recruiter
“We continue to invest in top engineering and technical talent while also meaningfully slowing the pace of our overall hiring,” Mencini wrote. “In line with this, the volume of requests for our recruiters has gone down. In order to continue our important work to ensure we operate efficiently, we’ve made the hard decision to reduce the size of our recruiting team.”
Efficiency is coming soon to google swe. Eventually they'll want to 'focus' on only critical projects and make the hard choice to do more layoffs to remain a leader in tech.
Seems like ATS and automations are doing their recruiters job but don't think they deserve these as they were doing really hard work
How does this effect those of us in team matching?
It's definitely not good. There was hope that with the strong earnings the last few quarters that Google might open up purse strings and head count, but this is a pretty clear indicator that they are not opening up in 2023 and very likely not to open up much in 2024 (maybe H2?). How long have you been in TM? What level/role? How many TM conversations have you had so far?
feeling bad for the recruiters who are impacted! I am in team match stage and waiting for feedback of few discussions not sure what is going to happen now
is it impacting only recruiters?
It always starts with recruiters
Feels bad. Best of luck to those affected. It’s a rough time.
