I work at IBM so literally ignore this post. These are the most attractive companies to me, to work for. Would basically do unspeakable things to work at any of these. Based on TC, brand, rocketship status, and tech. no specific order Public companies: Slack, Salesforce, Google, Facebook, Square, Adobe, Apple, Snap, Pinterest, Lyft Private companies: Stripe, Airtable, Brex, Robinhood, Instacart, Coinbase, Airbnb, Affirm, Klarna, Canva, Carta, Gusto, Front, Rubrik TC 120k (all cash no stock baby) Yoe 1
Interesting idea! Will do mine.. Public: Facebook, Snap, Square, Google, Apple, Lyft, Pinterest, Netflix Private: Airbnb, Stripe, Databricks maybe, Reddit maybe Been burned by private before (golden handcuffs-esque) so less inclined on those now. Thanks for including Lyft in your list despite current state of affairs! Also if you feel ready you should use your list as an interviewing guide - there’s definitely enough on there that you can land one :)
What kind of golden handcuff situation did you find yourself in with a private company? I would imagine this is more common in public companies where your liquid compensation is tied to an RSU vesting schedule.
Maybe the term I’m using is incorrect! Some startups have a 60 day exercise period once you leave (this forces you to exercise your options or you lose them all). Others will seem to have liquidation options based on the past (recruiter: “we’ve had a tender offer every december since i’ve been here!”), but you can be unlucky and can go years and years without a means to liquidate. Then if they have a tender offer, they can set the rules how they like (only options holders can liquidate - you have RSUs womp womp; you can only sell X% of all the options you’ve vested, etc). Lastly, with each funding round, your shares get more diluted and private companies have the chance to screw you over in this process. Do they take this opportunity? Oftentimes yes.
You disgust me the same way people who blow money on LV bags do. You strike me as someone who cares more about branding than about opportunity or functionality. IBM deserves better than ungrateful knaves like you.
Relax. These are just my favorite ones, as an observer. It doesn't mean I'm ungrateful. I'm extremely grateful and give back constantly when I can (to coworkers and to potential candidates interested in IBM). I love our brand and I love how we are in a stage of trying to find our brand identity and corporate focus. I'm really proud to be here. The companies I listed are just ones that particularly intrigue me given their mix of brand strength and potential growth velocity.
I'd love to work for Adobe or Salesforce. The WLB sounds so incredible especially Adobe. Too bad I didn't get any response on their new grad apps. Will probably have to accept my Amazon offer
People are really sleeping on Adobe. It's definitely very top tier for me. Everything is great about them.
Albertsons
I like LeBron
Airtable is great. People, pay, culture, engineers all top notch. I am worried though since every single tech giant is now launching an Airtable clone, but it is also validating that we’re working on something big here.
agreed highly. it's a top candidate for me next
I would take adobe and lyft off but yeah overall agreed
Disagree. Look up their benefits
Let me know if you’d like to get a referral for Brex!
Ibm used to be the best company to work for !
before I was born 😞
In another 20 years time, half of the companies you admired will be gone but IBM will still be around.
