Interesting post! Any east coast based ones?
Anything Corp Dev or Strategy Also if you have a special interest at your company, working on that team specifically is usually awesome in my experience. I’d also throw IR in there. The exposure and change of pace from a typical finance role was great for myself.
Forgive my ignorance, by IR do you mean investor relations? I always thought of that as an extension of fp&a but I could be way off base. My experience in finance is solely with banks so my perception is usually a bit skewed when it comes to industry
In the Corporate world (at least where I am at/have been) Investor Relations has always been under the “Finance” bubble. Great exposure to high level leadership and the work interested me a lot.
Depends what you're into - if you're into gaming twitch/ATVI/nintendo sound sickk
Went through the business ops experience at twitch. Fwiw, I had the time of my life there and look back with fond memories
what are finance groups? how does content strategy fit into this
Maybe it's at a high level. Like budgeting for original content and purchasing rights to series and movies. Seeing the return in viewership, retention, and new subscribers and then deciding how to go forward from there 🤷🏼♂️
A friend at Morgan Stanley IB TMT recruited for this group at Netflix and the base salary offering was $220K or something. Including bonus and stock, I'd assume it'd be close to 350K. Don't know if he got the job tho
In tech, anything close to core products/services is going to be the most interesting/rewarding experience. Then it’s corporate finance jobs like strategy, M&A, and FP&A (in that order)
Great post - also Finance Business Partnering can be sth interesting and different (supporting Marketing/Pricing/Operations/Sales/etc teams)
Disney Corp strat team is fing intense. I remember speaking to an ex goldman banker at disney who told me Disney worked him harder than gs new York when he was doing m&a. Ended our conversation with "if you're looking for magic, you're not going to find it here". Folks who graduate from that program apparently get a ticket to whereever they want to go. A lot end up at hbs for some reason
Project Finance for Walt Disney Imagineering. Absolutely zero opportunity for growth and terrible TC (55-70 for FA, 75-85 for SFA)but you have great WLB and get to see some incredible things.
Curious why Amazon Advertising stands out for you vs finance in other Amazon businesses like AWS and Devices?
I’ve worked Marketing/Advertising/Sales Finance at Disney (but can guess it’s be similar at any top company) the business partners there are usually really fun and you’re surrounded by a lot of creative people trying to build campaigns. There’s also usually a lot of swag to go around. When I worked in advertising finance, all the TV networks sent us DVD’s of their upcoming pilots months in advance to see if we’d want to buy advertising space, was cool to be able to sit in on those meetings.
I agree, the aws team Im on is way more interesting than the ads team in scope and strategy
