Most of the SWE interns who interned last Summer and who passed the hiring committee were rejected over a call. Google first asked them to wait till December for final decision. Then they were asked to wait till January end for head count finalisation. Then they were said to wait till March. In March they are told - we are closing your application even though you passed hiring committee. Interns waited more than 5 months to be rejected over a call. #layoff #interns #google
What did they expect. The world is fluid and seems to be falling apart at the seams.
Does this means that those who were waiting it out for a full-time offer are now empty-handed with graduation around the corner?
Yes
Yes
How do you know it’s all? Some critical teams may have still proceeded?
Most got impacted. Very few were converted specially in the ads and YouTube org.
But... iS EnGiNeErInG ImpAcTeD????
Yes SWE interns
hmm BUT IS JENGINEERING IMPACYEDDDD?????
Okay. These internships are paid aren't they?
I heard Microsoft kept 90% intern conversion as new grad. Why can’t google do the same
Google's attrition rate must be exceptionally low given they overpay by a lot in this market.
Hmm so you think since more Microsoft people leave, the company tries to keep more interns as full timers?
Ouch. But according to the news media there are more jobs than applicants in the US. Time to send in your apps to McDonald's!
And Burger King
I mean makes sense
That's good for existing Google employees. Google already diluted the talent pool by hiring so many average engineers
May be Google prevented another layoff by doing this 🤔
This won’t prevent a layoff at all. If anything, it signals another layoff is coming.
Well i think Uber means it avoids a hire-to-fire situation with these folks
