Hello Blinders, I am considering a move from a software engineer to recruiting. I am tired of coding and I do not want to work in operations. I figure recruiting is the last resort to stay in the tech industry and leverage my existing skill sets while also trying something very different. Has anyone made this transition before? What was your experience like? Do you like it? Are you still doing it today?
I've heard of people going the other route. Have you considered a PM role instead of recruiting?
This falls under operations
+1
Recruiters have been getting laid off left and right and you want to transition to recruiting? 😂 There are folks with several years of experience as a recruiter that are struggling to land a recruiter job again after layoff. What makes you think that you will be able to become a recruiter? In any downturn, recruiters are the first to be kicked out and rightfully so. Who do you need to recruit if you need to cut jobs? Any Tom, Dick or Harry can do the job of a recruiter. It doesn’t really require any skills. I would say that folks who’ve completed their highschool if given a few months training can become a recruiter. It’s a stupid role that requires no technical expertise. There’s a reason why your average recruiter would probably have majored in something useless like communications or psychology. Don’t waste your time!
I’m not looking to make a move today. I just want to learn from those that made this transition. Have you ever transitioned from a SWE to a recruiter?
There was one dude from Google who did this. He has a YouTube channel about it. Look it up.
Finally a real answer. I’ll look him up.
Why not product? That is the more typical move
This is definitely the dumbest thing I've read on blind in 4 years. Congrats
What makes it dumb?
