TC: 147k Y.o.e: 5 years Role: Engineer 1 Company: Qualcomm, SD location Recently got an offer from product team at AMD in Austin and again contemplating if I should take it on and move to Austin. Offer--> Base: 130k Bonus: 35k RSU: 100k over 4 years My experience with Qualcomm has been okay, there's a lot to learn here. But my biggest hang up is still San Diego and the beaches. Afaik Austin is pretty hot and it floods, so no beating SD in weather. But SD has gotten extremely expensive and I'm pretty unsure about the future of business at Qualcomm. It can go either way, so I can stay as well. I'm looking for people who have moved from San Diego to Austin to give their 2 cents on if it's worth it move there for the Money/Savings, or is it pretty conservative and terrible weather? I'd appreciate any helpful inputs to aid my decision making...

Meta Downlevel after Phone Screen. Is this possible? How dumb. is it a trick?
If you move to Texas, make sure you bring California political leanings with you!
you will not like it here i made the same mistake......better find roles in CA or other west cost locations, if you really want to come here try 2 months of summer and visit around to see if you still like it
San diego is probably one of the best place to live in west. In the end austin - san diego is cost - quality trade off. Austin has nice homes and ok city facilities. But summer and winters are terrible for 5-6 months in a year ans prepare for semi-annual blackouts
go to Austin. you are poor in SD with that TC
Looks like a good offer for Austin
Did summer internship at AMD. Summers are brutal, but not too bad for me. You definitely need sunscreen if you're not going to be in a building or car. I still prefer Indian food, and Austin has 10x better Indian food than SD. Car dependency is around the same. Home ownership much easier too I heard. You may have to change your lifestyle to be a house-mouse most of the time, especially in southern Austin near amd office, but I heard areas around Round Rock are pretty good since domain is nearby.
Distance from round rock to domain is approximately the same as AMD's office to downtown
Sounds like a lot of your experience is outdated. Houses here are extremely overpriced. The public transportation in SD is much better than Austin. Not sure why it's even worth mentioning the domain. It's just another outdoor mall.
What tile does AMD offer you?
I moved from SD to Austin like in October to AMD. I love it here. I hate paying hefty taxes for state and housing prices and rent in CA are through the roof for that reason I moved out. Austin is growing city and even from investment it is worth considering.
Any what makes you think Austin is otherwise? Do the math. I wouldnāt say about other cities but Austin!
And it also depends on what your perspectives are as well. If you like weather and you are okay with paying 2500-2700 for a single bedroom then and want to have a good night life then austin is not so good. But if you are looking to get a decent home with EMI equal to Rent in CA then moving to Austin is worth considering.
Too many people in SD. Off you go.
I'm pretty sure people in Austin will share the sentiment. There are too many people on earth, everywhere haha.
