Move from software company to agency?

I know the more common move is from agency to in-house, but after going through a few loops with large tech companies, idk that I really fit in with software company design cultures. I'm currently doing product design at a software company, but most of my work is redesigning old products or designing large features, which leans heavier into concept development than on iteration which I enjoy a lot. I started out my career at an agency in a non-design role and sort of miss it. I'm curious to hear if anyone has made the switch and if so what kind of agency did you land at, what's the type of work like and what challenges did you have with making the transition? TC: 120, YOE: 4.5

Don't. You're better off at a product company. Trust me.

No. I have Agency experience - no. Just no.

I’ve never heard of the reverse switch. For many reasons, but mainly because you’ll be paid about half of what you will at any reputable tech company.

Half? More like a quarter. 😂

LOL no one i know who has ever went back to agency world ever did it by "choice". it's at best stopgap bullshit to pay the bills. if you really wanted to be more independent, just freelance or something.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with moving back to agency or consulting firm environments if that’s how you prefer to work. Yeah maybe there will be a lower TC and less options for stock etc but if you care more about culture and the work itself then you do you IMO. Just make sure you vet companies thoroughly for work life balance and toxicity

I wouldn’t go back to agency for double the pay
