Have a couple of final rounds lined up and I have never lived outside of Seattle before so I wanted something new. I’m an extroverted introvert (shy, but I love being around people), single, and 23. Straight white male lol. Never had much luck with dating here in Seattle, doesn’t help that I’m 5’6 5’7ish. Obviously I’m not just gonna choose a city for the dating scene but it’s a plus if a city has good dating. I literally have 0 clue about living in any of these cities so here’s my best guess of pros and cons Bay Area - When I visited I saw a lot of cute girls. Also nice that there is more likelihood of me finding someone in tech. Although idk if I want to date someone in the same exact career as me. I assume the dating scene is miles better than Seattle as Seattle just sucks for dating - Weather seems so nice! Lots of outdoor activities. Lake Tahoe for skiing (I used to do competitive skiing in college). - Con I guess is that everyone around me works in tech so I am not unique. Also California is weird in that they have a state income tax. LA - Perfect weather - Get to see celebrities from time to time - LOTS of outdoor activities - People are very good looking here (seems to be common with California as a whole) - Con again is state income tax but lower sales tax. Still a lot more in taxes but higher income on average - People seem to be very fake and materialistic here, it’s like Bellevue, WA but 1000x worse in that regard NYC - Snow!!! We barely get any in Seattle and I want actual seasons. - Lots of nearby day trips like DC, Boston, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire - No clue about dating but must be okay/good since people from around the world/country come to this city - Both a pro and a con is no car. I love driving. I have a Tesla Model 3 order so I would most likely have to cancel it since cost of owning a car and the inconvenience of owning a car is super high since I wanna live in Manhattan - I remember at times the city did feel a little bit overwhelming. But also I loved the fact there was so much to do and see. - Super humid in the summer is a con - Seems I picked two states that have state income tax. This one also has a city tax. - Lack of good mountains for skiing. I know northeast has mountains but it sucks in comparison to west coast. Austin - Tons of young people here cause of university - Cheap cost of living (can live in a fancy 1 bed apartment for $1500) - No state or city tax - I assume southern girls are cute - Nice weather but can get too hot - No skiing :/ - Not much outdoor activities that interest me
My wife and I live in Austin and we love it. I have 2 YOE and I’m making $160k, and just on that salary alone we are super comfortable Bc of the low cost of living.
It’s very boring dude. This guy should enjoy his 20s, not spend it walking around the Domain.
If I was in my 20s and trying to decide this, I would not look beyond NYC. Ps. You can fly anywhere from here for ski trips
NYC.
Taos.... God gave New Mexico snow and Texans money!
Please don’t move to Austin
Most good 1 br apartments are above $1500 in Austin. The closer you get to downtown, the higher the price. I know people paying 3k to live in a shoebox in downtown. Most southern girls won't look at you unless you're white, are ripped or got an extremely good game. Austin has its fair share of guys who got all 3. Depends on how old you are, most university folk don't interact with working folk. Spend a summer here & then make up your mind.
Oh wow, I guess maybe Zillow just shows the apartments in other parts of Austin. I do have a 6 pack and do workout consistently but I am in no way confident with women. That’s something I’m trying to work on :/ I’m 23 and white. But 5’6/5’7 ish :/
People are often shocked when they come to Austin to find those 1.5k apartments in weird/shitty/undesirable neighborhoods. Or they are really old apartments. As soon as anything gets the "luxury" tag, you're really gonna pay for it. Imagine paying 3k for a whole apartment that's smaller than the average living room. Keep working on it boy! The competition is fierce here. All the best.
Just f%}^king open up maps and search for apartments in downtown and you’ll see the truth. Takes a few seconds
Lol
I'd go with NYC. I've seriously seen many dudes who never had much success with the other sex move there and then do pretty well. The sheer volume and diversity of matches is on another level compared to anywhere else. Of course it's also a one of a kind city with a great job market. You'd probably eventually get sick of it and can move somewhere else whenever that happens. But I doubt you'd regret anything.

If you’re in your 20s there is simply no better place to live than NYC. You’re too worried about weather. The city is electric. It attracts the best of every industry. The people are beautiful. You also have 3 major airports to go anywhere you desire. If you move to SF or Seattle you’ll settle for a 4/10 partner when in NYC you can prob get an 8/10 match. The lack of driving makes dating here unique and fun. Everyone is social. LA and Austin are good when you have kids. SF is good when your sole focus is career grinding but TBH you can do that in NYC too and have a better singles lifestyle. Seattle is good if you like tattoos and FM radio.
Gotcha, that’s what the consensus seems like about NYC. Looks like awesome place to be in 20s! Should I bring my car for weekend trips or would it be wise to cancel it?
There isn’t an issue keeping the car. In your 20s you won’t use it much. Look to live in Brooklyn too it’s 🔥 with young people. Otherwise stay below 14th in Manhattan and north of tribeca/FiDi.
