Amazon work culture has burnt me out and planning to leave before year 1. What’s killing me more is the perception future hiring manager would have if I make this move. There’s a lot of expectation because people usually go to meta , google , stripe or hot startups like databricks from amazon. So therefore I am personally conflicted whether this move is justified or not. Mentally I am tired working here but expectations from other folks who left for bigger gig is killing me inside And personally I like laid back culture where I have enough time to learn new stuff and there’s no pressing deadlines dictated by manager. As you know every tech company is taking 4-5 rounds of interviews. I don’t think I will have enough time to prepare for next big gig if I wanted to if I stay here at amazon So, I am thinking to work at intuit for 1-2 years and then work on my skill set and LC then jump to potentially google and then retire @ G People @intuit do you get call back from other companies or not? Are exit opportunities good or not? If exit opportunities aren’t good then I might have to deal with torture for 2 years at amazon before I can make a good move upwards ⬆️
Grass is always... You better grind now and move to big gig from amz. Obv it's better brand.
Lol, culture here is great. You will get calls from all big companies. And Intuit interviews are not hard, not typical leetcode type.
Please re-read it I updated it. I am very stressed by expectations and peer pressure
Such shallowness.. Perception and all.. Don't chase FAANG, chase a good culture for long term happiness, health and wealth. I moved from AMZN to VMW, earning much higher and growing at a much higher speed with an amazing culture. I know many who went to non FAANG and are actually being valued much higher than you would at any Alpha dominated FAANGs.
It sounds like you will greatly regret this move because you have heavily attached your worth and esteem to your work (more largely company prestige). You are young and have energy to grind now and coast later. On the other hand it also sounds like you don't have the stamina or capabilities to cut the cheddar at top companies. I suggest you either change your perspective or mindset or step up your game. Because you are so young, you will have that continuous fomo if you take the easy way out unless you have a paradigm shift in what is important to you (what you think is people's judgment vs your own happiness and wellbeing). Tip-- no one is "thinking" about you as much as you are thinking about them thinking about you.
This is 🙌
Man this was nice advice, how much is your experience Meta?
Dude, you definitely seem depressed, your company doesn't define you. Get yourself checked. People have enough to bother about than think what you are doing in ur life.
I understand. You are concerned about your career story. Anytime you level down in company you need to level up in your role. This does not just mean just title, but can also mean a new skill. Are you going from front end to back end? From internal to AI? From small scope to large? Those can all easily play into your career story, make sure to put it on LinkedIn. Stress and WLB are the reasons many people come from Amazon to Intuit. Keep in mind that recruiters and everyone else knows Amazon’s infamous culture and pay.
Thank you, you got my concerns correctly! - I am getting better pay - I am getting level up - I am getting better title & role - I am getting fully remote position The only thing which bothers me is the mental stigma which future employer might have regarding my this move
Many people go directly from Intuit into MAANG, specifically Google and Meta. There are very interesting problems to solve on many teams. This is even with no prior background in MAANG. You have a leg up here. You will also have a clear role to role story that will prevent recruiters from questioning down leveling the company.
Intuit is good but use it for your overall career development.
I almost daily receive calls/emails from Meta, Netflix, MS and other companies. At least 3 emails fromAmazon, which I move to trash without reading it. So here you have the answer, no one cares fron which company you are in, as long as you do good into interview. And one more food for thought, there is a Amazonian who is firing another Amazonian for bad performance PIP so don’t be so proud working at Amazon dear. 😅😅
Thank you!
OP, one more thing, people often change job for Money and I am earning close to 450-500 due to stock appreciation in last few years so no complains there. Now other angle is benefits, and I can bet Intuit is either little better or very close to any top company in Bay Area. So, Yaa You may not need any other company after joining Intuit.
So you think working at Intuit is going to be a peace of cake and hiring managers are going to ignore your resume because of Intuit? The sheer vanity 👏🏻👏🏻
Get over yourself. Intuit is objectively a step down from Amazon in terms of clout to recruiters. If a person goes from Amazon to Intuit with the same level, a recruiter at Google will consider that odd if they are trying to get in at Google. OP doesn’t say it will be a piece of cake, they said it will be better WLB
@310005 so you think OPs post is not condescending? A step down is only when this guy is a rockstar at amazon. He seems to be struggling, more or less an average or below average performer. So for a top performing Amazonian, its a step down but not for this guy. Also, having this in your head means you are way too shallow. There are literally no barriers of entry to other top tech firms from Intuit. Idk why you seem to encourage this? you like people talking down at you?

How did your interview go with zon?
I thought it went pretty well, debrief is set for Monday and recruiter said he’d let me know then. I hope and pray I cleared!
