Moved from G to A for a title bump and more money. Blind poll was about 70:30, against the move, but I ignored it and did it anyway. It was an impulse decision after I got re-orged from Jan 23' layoffs, which reset my promo (2nd time this has happened). Why I hate Amazon: - Quantity over quality on everything. Code, doc, meetings, etc... - So many are pure grinders. They just grind, put in 12+ hours / day to achieve very little - "Leaders" love getting their b-hole sucked dry, promoting brown-nosing - Because people are so worn out, they're so toxic. Seriously need to seek counseling. - I'm learning nothing here other than toxic politics - Too many more reasons to keep listing I want to leave but I have invisible shackles on. I'd have to re-pay bonus and relo unless I stay for 2 years (only 6 months in). I feel myself getting dumber day by day. Anyone else thinking about leaving for Amazon, whether it's for money and/or promo, don't do it. TC: 560k
Sign on and relocation is prorated
Nice TC Dumbass
I started here a few years ago and have grown a ton. Itâs team dependent, some are worse than others. In general most do suck, so Iâm definitely in the minority
I'm in AWS security org. Heard it's the same in most, if not all, AWS. Do you have any recommendations for potential transfer?
Amsec is pretty solid
lol⌠I felt the exact same way about Google and that too coming from a consulting firm. It really depends on the team youâre in. Canât wait to leave this political mess.
That's a first
Are you in GCP? My infra team got absorbed by GCP and it was a political mess. Many managers and senior leaders from AWS and Azure.
L6 or L7 at Amazon ?
L6, that TC would be bottom of the band for L7 and new hires always come in at > 50% of band at Amazon.
Is it CA or Seattle ?
sounds like youâre SDE3 or above, those donât need to grind as much I saw people xfer in <1 year at Amzn, can try that.
Don't shit post OP. No one goes from G to A. If it's real, just go back to G. You can go back.
You underestimate the power of a dumbass
Given the context it didnât sound like a bad decision originally
Good move regardless. Most companies are not like Google. Better to have exposure of good and bad. Learn what you can here and move on.
Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely learning some leadership skills, how to reject / push back, but the amount of hours to learning ratio is way off balance to my liking.
Is it really so impossible to do your 40 and then step back? What about the culture makes that untenable?
Ask about a âmutual separationâ - you donât have to pay back your relo and SB.
I'm unsure how often they allow this but I'll look into it. Thanks!
They wonât. Donât bother and save yourself volunteering for pip
